simple radiator question
I have just gotten my first jeep so I'm still not sure what is normal operating conditions. As I was driving around in a cold rain (Cleveland weather) and after getting out I noticed a bunch of smoke/steam coming from the radiator. It didn't smell like anything so I assume it was just the water hitting the exposed radiator. Is this normal? And if so, is there anyway to minimize this affect. thanks .

Normal operating temp should be around 210 on your gauge, and I've noticed it a couple of times on my 97. There really isn't much you can do about it except pay attention and make sure its not leaking.

thx 4 the feedback
thanks for the response, I just wanted to make sure nothing was mechanicaly wrong w/ the radiator. Maybe a grill cover would minimize the effect.

About a week after I bought my new Wrangler, (not having owned one before), I had just gone through a pretty rough Ice storm.

That morning, I cleared all the ice off the vehicle that I could, in a self-spray car wash, and drove it to work.

When I parked in my spot and sat there idling for a moment, I noted steam coming from under the hood, (like it was with an old car of mine years ago, with a radiator leak), and became concerned.

I looked all over and found no leak, so I presumed that the water I had been spraying all over the radiator area, front end, hood, and so forth, must be burning off of the hot motor.

Interesting that you should point out this experience, as it matched mine.

Perhaps the over-exposure of the motor, compared to say a Lincoln Towncar's motor compartment has something to do with it?! I even had started another thread in here about the exposure to sleet build up in the Windshield Wiper compartment, perhaps due to that "over-exposure" factor?.
