IN A snow storm with your big bad jeep

Do you pull over IF theirs a car off road to help OR show off and speed up going past them cause you can ? their is a reason I ask this .

Feta2006 02-25-2012 09:12 AM

I show off buy pulling them back onto the road in my Jeep! ;o) because I can!

I try to help in most every situation. You never know how searious something is unless you stop. Sometimes its just to check-----sometimes its to assist. Sometimes its a phone call.......even now not everyone has a cell.

It depends too on the situation. 2:00 AM and three guys in a vehicle off to the side.......911 should do.

the Kolector 02-25-2012 09:23 AM

I would stop if noone else had already.

dama417 02-25-2012 09:25 AM

"Showing off and speeding up" isn't very smart. Although you can go really fast with 4wd in adverse condintions you can't STOP any faster.

Phobos 02-25-2012 09:27 AM

I stop as often as I can, it's just the right thing to do. I would hope that should my wife gets stuck (she won't with her jeep but anyway) with the kids someone would help her.

wanderlust 02-25-2012 09:31 AM

all depends on the situation, I never put myself at risk. If I can safely help I will, If not I will contact necessary support.

PA . JAY 02-25-2012 09:41 AM

This is why I only stay on this forum instead of others I have found . according to other forums I have found you have to be a red neck D-bag and own a jeep that is a foot high and be a prick to everyone ! SO hello everyone on here ! and yes I also stop and call if they need it also , dont think I would try to pull anyone out in case something breaks on theirs and they try to get me to fix it .

Captchris 02-25-2012 09:42 AM

I would stop. It's the right thing to do. If only to make sure that the people are OK. I carry several recovery straps. If I can safely get them back on their way with my "big bad Jeep" I will certainly help. Someday I may need help.

Phobos 02-25-2012 09:46 AM

Pa jay, if I pull on someone's car let them hook it up but some people can still be jerks even when you just trying to help

Vanne 02-25-2012 09:48 AM

Spot on!

mslandsurveyor 02-25-2012 12:49 PM

If no one is assisting them, I don't know who they are, and it is safe for me to stop, I will stop to make sure everyone is OK and make sure a call is in to the appropriate folks to get them out. If I know them and are close to them, I will haul their butts out if it is feasible. I always stop though if it is safe to do so. If it is not safe, I will note the location of the vehicle, proceed to a safe place to pull over, and call 911 so that someone knows that there is someone in need of assistance.

I will never forget this poor woman with her Autistic son who were stranded on the highway with a car with no oil! The stupid oil change place she used either did not tighten the cap properly or just plain did not put it back on. I was in the work truck(Dept of Trans), so I used the Blinkie light and the Emergency turn around to get over to her. Turned out she had no cell phone and was afraid to try to walk with her son to the next exit. She used my phone and called her family. In this day and age, most think that everyone and their brother would have one, but she did not. She had been waiting there for almost an hour before I got to her.

This is what I do. I let the tow truck pull them out, unless it's a YJ TJ or JK. Unfortunately in my area sometimes no good deed goes unpunished so I won't attempt to pull out a "civilian's" vehicle.

I would stop, render any medical attention necessary and contact support. I would rarely attempt a recovery because of not carrying the necessary equipment as most vehicles do not have safe recovery points. If situation looked sketchy, I'd just phone it in.

cocky grin 02-25-2012 08:14 PM

I would only stop if someones stuck if I can tell they have some kind of tow point cuz im not about to mess up someones car and have them expect me to pay for it if i helping them out

mathjak 02-26-2012 06:55 AM

we should wave at them as we drive by in our big infidel suv's......

schirmyver 02-26-2012 09:53 AM

Years ago, before I was a father, I would stop all the time. Always gave me a good feeling being able to help someone. I was biased though and if it was a woman or family I always stopped, a bunch of guys and well I figured they could fend for themselves.

Now I am a father and times have changed. There are some real wackjobs out there. Last year or so we had a woman who would pretend to be broken down on the side of the road, carrying a baby. When people would stop the baby turned out to be a gun and she would rob them, making sure to take their car keys and cell phone so she would have plenty of time to get away. This happened only miles away from our house.

Now if I feel the need to help I always call the authorities first and I pull in front of their car so I can get away quickly if needed. It really sucks that a few bad people have just about killed the good Samaritan in me. Now if I see someone in a ditch or obviously hurt then absolutely I stop. But I still make that call to the authorities first.
