looking for campground

Hey guys, looking for a place to do tent camping with restrooms and running water. I live in Moreno valley and I'm thinking a 50 mile radius at most.
Any suggestions?

myfirstwrangler 02-26-2012 10:12 AM

I am almost positve Blackmtn has restrooms its on Hwy 243. Possibly even lake Hemet, they for sure have restrooms

turdhurdler 02-26-2012 12:19 PM

Any campground in Big Bear will have restrooms and most have running water. Heart Bar on HWY 38 has everything you could desire including showers.

turdhurdler 02-26-2012 07:51 PM

I have been on HWY 243 many times and you are right. Its got some smelly areas, haha. Just kidding. I love going up to Idyllwild and relaxing. Have you taken the trail from Bee Canyon to Pine Cove? Fun, easy run to spend a relaxing day doing.

You will be fine on the Bee Canyon trail alone. It gets a bit of traffic and is do-able in 2wd if unless you take the one side route that is back diamond. Besides that, the trail is just a fun run off the beaten path.

Take a look at the http://www.wranglerforum.com/f55/the...on-109922.html we are setting up. A lot of good people with a ton of knowledge and experience to help you out on the trails. Will be a great event.

So its pretty much like it is half way thru, nothing to worry about, and nothing like indian truck trail then huh? I think thats what its called.

I was checkin that out earlier, but wasnt sure if there was gonna be showers there... Lol no really was more concerned with how kid friendly it was gonna be or recommended......

turdhurdler 02-26-2012 10:46 PM

Kids are always a welcome addition to the runs. We all love kids, especially with ketchup. Mmmmm, kiddikabobs... Just kidding. We have had several members bring thier kids along for the Meet n Greets or even for simple day runs. Heck, I even took my mother out for a run a while back. So pack up the little one and come on out. As for the showers, the campsite has them.

how so? holcomb valley is open year round. did you call the discovery center?

i don't know how up to date this site is but it says open. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/sbnf/...a/?recid=26385

but i cant imagine the forrest roads are closed to 6 insches of snow. this was in jan, and some of the fire raods had alot more snow than this.

where did you hear the campgrounds are closed? i tried to call the discovery center last night but was too late, and they are not open till thursday. im still planning on going, can't wait to snow camp! are you going?

JPi1 02-28-2012 09:24 AM

One of my favorite camp spots is Seven oaks campground just down the crayon from Angeles Oaks, hwy 38. It's a perfect trailhead, and lots of trails start right near camp. Tent camping next to a year round creek stocked with trout, rv camping across the street, small cafe, bar and store.

I called the discovery center and I asked about the Serrano camp site. They told me it was closed. So I asked if there was anything in big bear or lake arrowhead and they said nothing was available. Maybe due to the weather
