Tax return build thread :-)
ok guys im still reasonably new to the forum but i got my jeep about a month ago and wife allowed me to drop a large chunk of our tax return money on my heep so here it goes.

started with this.

first things first. the top had to go. not for good but i live in tx so at least for the summer.
then i somewhat finished up the po's terrible flat black krylon job.

after that i broke out the undercoat since i was waiting on parts from ebay, quadratec, and jcwhitney.

i did the full undercarriage but didnt get pics. also threw on some graphics. nothin special. the "if i wanted a hummer id ask your sister" across the front windshield. 2 zombie outbreak response team decals on the front of the fenders and 2 5" gloss black stars above the "jeep" on the sides.
after that i grabbed some rustoleum flat black vinyl paint and attacked the roll bar pads.

threw on some cool looking shifter knobs. kabar handle for the tranny and a .44 mag revolver for the tcase.

then money hit the bank and it was time for new rubber. 33x12.5x15 nankang mudstars

rear bumper came in and i couldnt wait for daylight to put it on so i didnt

next day was time to bedline the interior. i used the rustoleum brand roll on and was thoroughly impressed with it. also grabbed a few cans of the spray on to hit where i couldnt roll it on

new lights came in so had to get those on quick. ended up not sticking with the black headlight since i didnt want to go with hid and a regular bulb didnt reflect far enough for my liking.

at some point in the mix i threw on the safari tube half doors with safari mirrors.

a few things i didnt get pics of was me spraying the seats with the flat black rustoleum vinyl spray installing the radio (had to cut the dash to fit it) the 6x9s with the amp(under the rear seat), and the center console.
heres what she looks like now. no done yet though, still have to wire up the 4 blazer lights and finish the paint around the windshield frame. also waiting for the gauge led lights and plan on going with a black dash with red trim on it. im sure there will be much more to come as well.

olbaid_83 02-26-2012 05:04 PM

just realized i didnt say anything about the front bumper either lol but its there too
anyone have any other ideas i could look at besides a winch(workin on it)

Nice lookin jeep doing some good work there, where did you get those projector headlights And what brand are they?

olbaid_83 02-26-2012 05:58 PM

they are just generic from ebay. ill sell them cheap if you are interested.

ninfivfo 02-26-2012 06:36 PM

Pm me your cheap price, hey everyone can use some cheap back up parts haha

NewYJOwner 02-26-2012 09:02 PM

All that work and the inside of the windshield frame is still Red? Kinda sticks out like a sore thumb doesn't it?

olbaid_83 02-26-2012 09:36 PM

lol yeah it does. im replacing the windshield since there is a crack all the way across it but at that point im painting it.

Yjpower94 02-29-2012 10:04 PM

Where did you get those tires from and how much did you pay. Buying tires can be a small fortune if they are cheaper but still good why not save the money.

SullyRock71 02-29-2012 10:16 PM

Looks great man! Nice job!

olbaid_83 03-02-2012 01:21 PM

those are nankang mudstars i got them at discount tire for 160 each.

SUBZEROCOOL 03-02-2012 01:50 PM

How do the bumpers fit? Did you get them together as a combo price? I bet they cost a pretty penny.

Xpress 03-02-2012 01:56 PM

Looking good!!

Screw that, looking NASTY!! :punk::punk::thumb:

Do your brake lights emit red light? Also your markers need to emit either white or amber light :)

olbaid_83 03-02-2012 02:50 PM

bumpers were nearly direct replacement. the front i had to drill out the holes a little bit but mostly a factory replacement. i got them seperately on ebay for 150 ish for the front and 300 ish for the rear with spare carrier. the break lights do have red bulbs and the front turn signals and side markers are both amber lights.

ninfivfo 03-02-2012 05:05 PM

By chance have a link to the ones you won?

olbaid_83 03-02-2012 05:10 PM

thats the rear that i won. these guys are awesome and willing to bend over backwards to help you out. they gave me 50 bucks back because the finish had some boo boos on it. not really even noticeable from 10 feet back and mostly covered by the tire

87-06 Jeep Wrangler Black Textured Rock Crawler Front Bumper+ Winch plate ready | eBay
this is the front bumper and they gave me back 80 bucks on it since i had to re drill out 1 side of the holes for it to line up. supposed to be a direct bolt up but they said they would either give me some money back or replace it. i chose to take the money and drill it out myself

ninfivfo 03-02-2012 05:16 PM

Thanks, actually found those the other day and wanted to know what people thought about them. I kinda like the more tubular ones they sell, contemplating buying them....hmmm damn

olbaid_83 03-02-2012 08:52 PM

i love em. the look is exactly what i was looking for on my heep....going with the tactical look on mine.

1989JEEPYJ 03-02-2012 09:09 PM

Those tail lights are sick! Did you buy them black or did you smoke em?

jr78racer 03-02-2012 09:24 PM

looks good :thumb:

olbaid_83 03-02-2012 09:30 PM

i bought them black. they were in the set with the side markers and front turn signals

1989JEEPYJ 03-02-2012 10:03 PM

From where do you remember?

Xpress 03-02-2012 10:16 PM

I did a little digging and researching on those projector lenses (AKA asking HID Planets opinion) and as it turns out they're junk. All they are is regular H4 reflector lights with a "projector" lens stuck to the front of it, and the included H4 bulbs are junk.

A real projector retrofit would put out 2x a much light as our sealed beam headlights, with H4 halogens.

olbaid_83 03-02-2012 10:29 PM

yeah they sucked. i figured the only way they would work is with HID bulbs. just went with silverstar replacements. they are bright enough for city driving. as far as the tail lights i got them on ebay from a vendor by the name of neondials. i do not recomend going through this guy for them. he was the biggest jerk and the most unproffessional person i have ever dealt with. i asked about mounting hardware and a wire diagram for his tail lights and he reported me to ebay for asking for additional parts after the auction was done. he was mad that i left him neutral feedback due to his lack of professionalism. id be more than happy to post the conversation between the two of us but to make it short i dont recommend going through him. there are many other vendors with the same product.

1989JEEPYJ 03-02-2012 10:31 PM

Awesome thanks for the heads up

olbaid_83 03-02-2012 10:34 PM

no problem and good luck finding some.

yjJEEPyj 03-02-2012 11:32 PM

Nice tax return build ;) any future plans? I recently Did bed liner inside my YJ Was red.. I did spray tho. Cant beat that fresh looking interior! makes the rig seam so much nicer.

olbaid_83 03-03-2012 12:08 AM

i dont know what else to do to it for now. im working on doing some electrical upgrades like led dash gauge lights and working on fixing the little bugs with it that have come out (ac blower motor, clutch leak, head cover leak, etc) im open to ideas though....this is my toy but its a mostly street toy so doing things that arent street friendly are out. im all ears!!!

drew11 03-03-2012 10:06 AM

I did the same thing. My black projector lights were junk too. I liked the look so much that I gutted the light and went with the pricey 9003 HO 100 watt bulbs and that woke up the light. I dealt with the same guy. There are a lot of good vendors on ebay, but he is not one of them. I like the tactical look. Keep up the good work.
