stangruns11s 02-26-2012 04:17 PM

i might have to head down to oc for that

just4fun 02-27-2012 03:56 AM

I just might make it this year

phantomofrussia 02-27-2012 09:43 AM

I am thinking of going to this as well. Just depends on my other vacation plans

just4fun 02-27-2012 09:45 AM

Im just hoping gas isn't 5 dollars a gallon then

4wheelin 02-27-2012 03:17 PM

Yeah, I'm not thrilled with the town. But, if I have a chance on wheeling somewhere down there, sounds like it might be worth the trip. It could be cool to have a pic of me and the jeep on the beach@OC. :D

I'm also interested in wheeling @ Assateague. I recall the requirements to get a permit to be able to get out on the beach in the vehicle are pretty stringent, and rightfully so.

In any case, getting down there with a bunch of like-minded people sounds like a decent time. I'm not too keen on the possibility of having my vehicle broken into. I saw one of the posts on this link that asked if jeeps that stayed at the Commodore (near 14th st) could park across the street in the parking garage. More deterrent to the expected theft element that must exist there.

Last week of August is usually the hottest time of the year. That means increased road rage and impatient drivers.

Gee, talking myself out of it already :hide:

stangruns11s 02-27-2012 03:37 PM

well as long as we all get in for a group photo im sure it will be worth it the reqirment is we all have to be topless(jeeps ofcorse)

wwch99tj 02-27-2012 03:59 PM

Posting a quote from Seawalker:
Maryland:

22-403. Mirrors.

(a) Motor vehicles - In general.- Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with at least one mirror located to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of the vehicle.

(b) Same - Registered in this State.- Every motor vehicle registered in this State shall be equipped with an outside mirror on the driver's side located to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of the vehicle and along the driver's side of the vehicle. This subsection does not apply to motorcycles, which are governed by subsection (c) of this section.

(c) Motorcycle.- Every motorcycle shall be equipped with two rearview mirrors, one each attached to the right and left handlebars, which shall meet applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards.

(d) Obstruction of inside view.- Where the view through the inside rearview mirror is obstructed, two outside rearview mirrors are required.

[An. Code 1957, art. 661/2, 12-403; 1977, ch. 14, 2; 1999, ch. 645.]

Ocean City is trying to increase their business by inviting groups like us to town. I expect there will be some folks that get their share of attention, and others that get along with no problem at all. The town is trying to drum up some business and I imagine the cops are just trying to keep order.

Apparently (from other threads) the Ocean City po-po do not like jeepers. I'm not talking from experience, just from the posts from others. Knowing the law will help you protect yourself.

I don't want to incite everyone that wants to drive without doors. Based on the link above, the poster believes from their experience, you should be aware that you may have a run in with the law. I agree that you should be prepared. They might be picky with fenders, doors, mirrors, etc.... But mostly, they will get picky with folks that dont behave.

One of the reasons I asked for folks that went the first year to please post about their experience.

I'm thinking of making a pre-trip experience in May just to get a feel for the town again, and maybe stop in with the locals to see what they say.

Hit up the car show weekend.
I lived on the eastern shore of Md most of my life, I just recently moved to De. I've never had much luck with the po po in ocean city. When I was younger and down for the car shows I always wound up in cuffs. So I will not be pushing the issue that's for sure

Hubdeep 02-29-2012 06:31 PM

All I'm saying is we received a ticket for not having doors on our Jeep in Ocean City. The 'officer' stated that Ocean City code states that all vehicles must have driver/passenger protection in some form of doors. The law was not open to interpretation, as stated by him.....

That's just another good way for the city to make money, you'll have issues in other states as well, the state may allow one thing but some city's/county's don't not

Wheelerbob 03-01-2012 03:20 PM

I'm going, I actually drove down last year in the pouring rain but we were thrown out after we got there due to the impending storm. I was really bummed because I was going to be in the parade and was really looking forward to the rest of the events. Can't wait for this year :punk::punk:

07jk00tj 03-03-2012 09:44 PM

You should have showed him the sticker on your soft top header that states the doors are for protection from the elements only and are not for safety.

I have driven through there topless and doorless tons of times with no issue. I'm on the beach at Assateague almost every weekend in the summer.

Hubdeep 03-10-2012 07:53 AM

Oh, he was in no mood for discussion. Trust me... Lol

Just like the, "Technically my tires don't stick out, it's the offset of my wheels that cause the..."

"Please sign the bottom sir. Have a good day."

A couple of updates for those interested:
#1 Beach Parade on Friday morning

We go before the Mayor and City Council on Monday April 2nd for permission to put this event on for 2012! We had permission for 2011 and Hurricane Irene did not allow it to happen. We have made all of the plans and filed all of the needed permits....Now it is up to the City! Wish us luck again this year.
The parade is slated to start at 7am on Friday the 24th and at 8am we will head out onto the beautiful beach of Ocean City and head south from 31st street to the Inlet parking lot.

Pre-registration for this event is a must and will be available in the coming months on this page.]

We are limited to 100 Jeeps so be sure to check back and be ready to sign up.

If the City allows us to do this again, we want to put on a very organized and very well orchestrated event.

We were pleased to have the help of the Ocean City Police and the Ocean City Beach Patrol working with us last year to get this passed and we hope this year to have the same good luck.

#3 ESJA tour ride

Sunday August 26th :

The ESJA Land Tour 2012 - This is where the members of the Eastern Shore Jeep Association allow us to come out and visit them at their private land and trail ride with them. They have agreed to drop the standard entry fee for anyone who registers as an OCJW participant.

97wrangtj 03-12-2012 08:28 PM

Hopefully it won't rain on oc jeep week this year. If anyone plans on going on the osv side of Assateague island, be prepared for the price of the passes and the equipment required. GET THERE EARLY!

Other than that, its worth it!!!

stangruns11s 03-12-2012 09:10 PM
