dana 44 front and rear question

helping out a user on another forum and cant find specs on a wrango anywhere
is there any 97-06 model that comes with front and rear 44's?
if so what are the spline counts and gear ratio's.

thanks a million for your quick response

gixxerphil 02-27-2012 04:18 AM

Not sure about the spline count(maybe 30), but 03-06 Rubicon's came with D44's F/R with 4.10 gears.

sounds about right. user on cherokee forum thinks he's buying a front and rear 44 combo of an 01 tj for $100 haha
just trying to set him straight thanks

Redsand 02-27-2012 04:27 AM

they didnt make a rubi in 01

jp2611 02-27-2012 05:22 AM

can't swear to it.....heard that the dana 44 front on Rubi is not a true 44.....it is an upgraded standard axle.....with lockers...again I can't swear to it..was something I read on here.

Had to do with the structural supports on the axle itself. not the same as what is on a "true" dana 44...different on TJ Rubis.

It's not, it's a hybrid 30/44.

snwchris 02-27-2012 07:47 AM

Yea it's a hybrid D44 on the 03-06 Rubicons

The only Jeeps really to have D44 rear I think where Sahara models had it as either standard or optional choice and i think some of the Sports had options for it.

You could use D44's from a Waggy (wagoneer) or D44s from an early bronco as well.

I have a '99 sport, and using online pics, i identified my rear as a D44...
and my build sheet from Chrysler says the say...

Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System DJJS
Dana 30/186MM Front Axle DMES 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio
DRKS Dana 44/226MM Rear Axle DSAP Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle EAAC

The JK Rubicons are the only ones with Front & Reat D44's. The JK axle is wider then the TJ axle width and plus the brackets are not in the same location.

In order to use the JK axles you would have to cut the brackets off and put new ones on in the correct location and I believe the the driveshafts use a flange plate instead of yokes.

My '04 Tj Sport has a Dana 44 rear. My '12 JK sport has a Dana 44 rear.

You could also get it on a Sport as an option:thumb:, it was also an option for the Sahara's

You should have an HP30, which if you don't plan to go over 35's a lot of people would say keep the 30:thumb:
Either way, you'd have to weld new brackets on the TJ D44(it has the same WMS as the YJ)
