Test complete video: 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara

I love my unlimited sport! one of the most fun vehicles I ever owned.!!!
they did try pretty hard up to get up the rock hill...

silvrevo 02-27-2012 10:53 PM

Thats why you question who gives the report.

Dont listen to only one response.

Get back in your camary guy!!

roxbury29 02-27-2012 10:59 PM

exactly!.. the more i watched it , the more, I wanted to take him for a ride..
I doubt, it was in 4Low- or if he even knew what that was even for..

Still most fun to drive, best re-sale value and pretty awesome rig!!!!

themoneypit 02-27-2012 10:59 PM

Ranked lowest of 300 models. First time I have ever been happy to be last.

Feta2006 02-27-2012 11:06 PM

I can't believe how quick he was drivin' up those rocks, you gotta me kidding me! Seriously, I thought the exhaust pipe was gonna take the camera with it! LOL

Up Hill Bill 02-27-2012 11:15 PM

What a dork! Did his mommy tell him he'd look like more of a man with that little stubble beard? I'm proud to drive and love a vehicle that sissy doesn't approve of!

Totally ad hominem attack on my part, but, heck, he insulted my Jeep first....

My opinion of the steering/handling/ride is the exact opposite of his. Guess I'm the fool.... but a happy fool!

I have been ignoring C. R. for more than 30 years.

OregonRubicon 02-27-2012 11:18 PM

Haha!!

Thanks for posting it.

Consumer Reports is probably just upset they were not invited to the media trial runs on the Rubicon Trail and Browns Camp Oregon.

sandbaja 02-27-2012 11:28 PM

Did you note the inflation on the tires going up the hill? Bet he was running 35-38 lbs of pressure.

Dr Gonzo 02-27-2012 11:35 PM

Consumer Reports is bogus anyway. The Pontiac Vibe and the Toyota Matrix are the same car, but CR rates them differently. Why? Because they sell ad space.

ummm, they don't sell ad space

I don't care for their views because they view cars as appliances, but for most people, that is what cars are - appliances.

Plus - Did anyone see how this a$$hat took that thing up the rocks? Anyone who thinks thats how you're supposed to climb up a set of rocks deserves a snapped axle and possibly an a$$ whoopin!....Ok maybe not that, but he rubs me the wrong way...

daggo66 02-27-2012 11:46 PM

What a tool.

Chrysler should send someone out there to give him some pointers about the differences between driving on a road and driving over rocks.

Looked like he was in 4WD at least, think I clearly saw both axles spinning tires. However, I'm not sure why he felt the need to bounce it up at that speed, or that aggressively. Given the engine revs, wonder if he was in low...

funny thing even all the things he did wrong up that rock hill, there isn't any other vehicle that could do that without damage ! ( ok, not many vehicles )

Here is a real test by real enthusiasts :) :

Ummm...my Jeep has responsive steering and very little body roll in turns and corners.

Blackened 02-28-2012 12:34 AM

Well compared to other suvs the wrangler isn't as refined but its a wrangler.

The only good point he did make was "its really the only 4 door convertible". Which was a big factor for me buying one. It makes me wonder why no other car manufacturers have tried to cash in on this market. Ford was supposed to bring the Bronco back but who knows if that will ever happen.

NFRs2000NYC 02-28-2012 01:08 AM

Objectively, he isn't wrong. Is it the best Wrangler ever? You bet your a$$ it is. However, that isn't saying much for ON ROAD vehicles. My friend just bought an MDX (2012.) The interior is not comparable. The smoothness is not comparable. The road noise is not comparable. The build quality is not comparable. Both will drive on the road, snow, and dirt trails just fine. That is the end for the 99.95% of vehicle customers. People like those on this board represent a TINY group. Hell, most people on this board don't mud or go rock crawling, I would say 51% of Wrangler owners on the forums use them mostly on the road, and MAYBE some dirt trails when they go camping once a year.

What I do agree with you guys is, they lumped it into a "mass appeal" vehicle category. Saying the Wrangler isn't the best daily driver is like saying the Ferrari Enzo feels a bit cramped and that it's a bit noisy at speed. Both are the pinnacle of what they were designed to do. The Wrangler to US is a specialty vehicle. It does things no other car/truck can even THINK of doing from factory, however, there is no reason to get offended when someone tells the truth.

I still think CR isn't what they claim to be, but the Wrangler reviews that are focused on "normal conditions" are all the same, and that for the money it is a ripoff and subpar. It is only when you factor in its INTENDED use that the Wrangler makes sense.

JEEPDON 02-28-2012 06:16 AM

I would like to see him take his more"civilized and roadworthy" SUV's here!!

Probably would scratch his whiskers!!

You are proving my points.

1) The photo above shows that this is NOT a road car, and is a specialized vehicle for a specific purpose.

2) Honestly, how many Wrangler buyers do this? MAYBE .5%?

Cosmic Charlie 02-28-2012 07:55 AM

I feel the same as all of you - what a tool.

But, ya know, for the people who actually use Consumer Reports to decide on a vehicle, this is exactly the stuff they need to know. They need to know that a Wrangler is not for them. If they are going to go climb some rocks without learning to do it properly, then they should look elsewhere. If they are bothered by a "cumbersome" top removal, then they should look elsewhere. If they need a device to keep their doors open, then they should look elsewhere. If MPG is a factor, then they should look elsewhere. They should look at a Toyota or a Honda - which is exactly what CR is gonna tell them to do.

I still can't figure how he feels the steering as "unresponsive" ??????? Mine is all over the place with every minor touch of the wheel.

I do agree with the articles overall assement of the ride quality, though...."it's jiggly." And I LOVE it!

FreezerJeep 02-28-2012 08:47 AM

Ya it's weird. They group the wrangler in the same catagory as I believe the hylander hybrid. It's like comparing a quad to a bunch of golf carts. Both can go off road, but not to the same extent.

swiber 02-28-2012 08:49 AM

I had to stop half way. That tool needs to find himself a bag.

Steering slow and not responsive- You sure you know what you are doing

Body roll on the corners- Shut the traction control and drift the corner silly.

I am laughing to much now to even continue. I am going to go park on top of his Honda Civic.

agree....and great points!

....although the Gentle Reader has to wonder just what the professional requirements are to purposefully remain so ignorant of what they pretend to expose in such clueless drivel.....

mslandsurveyor 02-28-2012 12:41 PM

The night before we pulled the trigger on The Freezer, my Dad called me up in a dead panic and told me all about how horrible the JKU rated in CR.

I responded..."Dad, do you remeber how The Bullet felt/looked in some of those respects when we took you and mom to the beach, top off, this past summer?"......."Well, yes. It was fun and very nice looking! Why do you ask?"......"Because, Dad, that is how the Arctic is but better!".

He still did not buy it, as he wanted us to buy thier '07 Pilot. In the end, I said the Pilot is not a Jeep. We are not getting the Pilot. Sorry, Dad! Still love you, but both of our boys are perfect for our family. :D

radtype 02-28-2012 12:46 PM

Watching the video brought a tear to my eye and I wanted to go out and buy a second Wrangler. Who wants dull and boring - my wife has a Prius and after a few miles in her car, I long for a fun drive in the Jeep.

One thing he said taht is true... "You are basically pushing a brick through the air" Anyway I bet these smucks would complain that the roof on a motorcycle leaks in the rain.
