I have a buddy who works at a Body/paint shop at a local Ford lot. He hooked me up with a good quality adhesion promoter for plastic surfaces. I painted mine up a few years ago and they have been holding up well. I went from faded gray to black. These pics are old (I've since finished the entire interior including the doors). Just prep it right and you should be fine. And to answer your last question, I pulled everything out first.

I think I may sand down the Fusion a bit and try to go over it with the Flame Red color match.

I know this is a stupid question, but I'll throw it out there. I was thinking about painting mine with bedliner. Are you worried that the air bags won't function properly? My TJ is still a DD with daughter most of the time.

Airbags should still work just fine. In mine I'm not even painting it where the air bags are located, just the glove box cover, speaker grill and middle section of the door panel. But the air bag would still work if you painted over it.

Im thinking about doing a lot of the faded interior parts in bedliner spray as well. Wonder if you would need to use the adhesion promoter as well. Or, if that bedliner spray will stick to the plastic and be durable over time......

I painted the gauge surround and center panel with bed liner, and it's holding up great. I also went from faded gray to black using dupli color without any issues so far.
