Sorta new, have a question though
Used to have an account, couldn't figure out the email and password, but I do have a question, I have a 2000 wrangler 2.5 liter, and about a month ago, my engine failed, I think it might have been a blown head gasket, not really sure though. I have this jeep sitting in my driveway with a shot motor, I will be getting a new engine in it some time in the near future, but I would love to have an inline 6, because, I struggle to get up hills in the 4cyl. I live in Pittsburgh, I need something that will allow me to get up and go. I leave for basic training in July, and would love to enjoy my wrangler before I go, any estimates on how much it would cost to put a 6cyl in the body of wrangler that was originally 4cyl? A new 4cyl would be $3500 according to two different shops..clearly an inline 6 would be more expensive but the body of my jeep is worth more than most running wranglers that age and to me it is worth it. Anyway, don't mean to rant, any suggestions? help?
Thanks a lot.
Glad to be back.

i am new to the forum but, i have worked on all kinds of trucks my whole life i would suggest the 6 cyl. eng. and buying a similar jeep with the 6 cyl. and swaping out youself you will save a lot of money by doing it yourself, (buy a wrecked jeep couple hundred, lots of work swaping everything & lots busted knuckles later, you have a 6cyl) myself i have always perfered doing my own work

Welcome aboard Jon!

If you're going to swap up to bigger power, swap to a V8. The cost in doing a V8 swap from a 4 cylinder is going to be roughly the same an I6 due to everything that has to be changed. I'm actually going through this same decision now.

Luckily for me, I got a good deal on a 2.5 to replace mine. That said, I'm gonna go V8 in the next year. Just can't afford to now.

Welcome. If I was making that choice I'd go with the V-8.
