What kind of gas do u buy?

Do u guys and gals use ethanol free or the new stuff?

the Kolector 02-29-2012 10:56 AM

At these prices, I go with the 87. Gas prices are rediculious!

EDIT: was thinking the wrong thing.

citified 02-29-2012 11:00 AM

I use ethanol free 87 octane, nets me way better milage.

Not in a Wrangler.

Thumper2012 02-29-2012 11:06 AM

I've got my bulk tank at the farm filled with real regular gas here, that is all
she gits. I just topped off the tank and it cost us $3.49 a gal, the next day
when he delivered it he told me their fuel prices went up .09 over night.

sunnykk 02-29-2012 11:07 AM

I have always used Chevron for all my vehicles. I use the middle one for the wrangler (88 or 87 - I think)

Interesting. Where in North Dakota are you? :whistling:

strider_mt2k 02-29-2012 11:10 AM

It calls for "regular" in the manual, that's what I run.

Running "better" fuels might not be that beneficial, as the computer regulates all that stuff.

Cyalume 02-29-2012 11:10 AM

If you're worried about gas prices and mpg,. You should find non-ethanol.

Personally my commute is about 10 miles, so I don't worry about it much. Plus if you're worried about saving gas and money, you probably shouldn't be driving a Wrangler. :)

You're a brave soul. That is if you are paying their crazy prices in California (at least 0.10$ more than anything else).

I honestly do not think they're anything special having used everything from Shell, BP, Costco, Safeway, and some of the mom and pop shops along highway 1. They all net about the same MPG.

If I was that concerned about keeping the engine clean, I'll throw in some fuel additive once or twice a year.

No can do. I buy whatever 87 octane they have at the drink stations. Depending on the season it's up to 10% ethanol. Its a state thing and all stations have that notice on the pumps.

I actually avoid Chevron when I can. My last truck ran rough and stalled for a whole tank until I filled up elsewhere. It happened once but its all it takes to lose confidence in a brand that some swear by.

Yeah I know, it's a bit crazy with gas prices these days. But I have always used Chevron for the past 18+ years or so (since I got my first car). I am kinda used to it now.

GeckoJK 02-29-2012 11:56 AM

I never see a station that doesn't have the 10% ethanol in their mixture around here. Same goes with MI and OH when I am down there.

Red Sahara 02-29-2012 11:58 AM

We have Ethonal in all gas here.

I fill up with 89 octane - only about 2 bucks a tank more. Although, it cost a litle over $80 last time I filled up. Gas is ridicuosly high - something needs to give.

mxman122 02-29-2012 12:04 PM

While I know the computer adjusts for the fuel type I swear mine runs better on Premium. I'm trying the middle grade to see if I notice anything.

kik 02-29-2012 12:08 PM

Shell 87. It all has 10% in my area and the Rubi and YJ run great on it.

denisbaldwin 02-29-2012 12:09 PM

I use whatever is cheapest, typically the Racetrak on the way to work or Sam's Club gas on weekends.

jimmysmith 02-29-2012 12:17 PM

I always get mine at Costco now, they have an additive that makes it top tier gas or better, plus its the cheapest in the area.

CorvusCorax 02-29-2012 12:22 PM

I use Shell bronze... no 10% ethanol sticker on the pump.

CapnRich22 02-29-2012 12:24 PM

i run whatever nets me better mpg and so far its been the 91... and when the most expensive gas is only .20cents more per gallon, thats only $2-4 more per tank.. not much of a savings in my mind to lose a mpg or so

08JeepSahara 02-29-2012 12:41 PM

Generally the cheapest. Arco (BP) around here. Tried mid-grade but performance is same as regular. So regular it is. BTW $3.59 today is cheapest in town. $3.55 last THR. Same station.

C6Rubicon 02-29-2012 01:07 PM

I use 85 octane even tho Jeep says use 87. Runs great. Filled up yesterday $3.01/gal. Lol :)

1989JEEPYJ 02-29-2012 01:08 PM

^^^where do you live?! I'm paying close to 4.00/gal

Cheapest I saw today was $4.35/gallon

jay-1 02-29-2012 01:19 PM

We have 87, 89 with 10% ethonal and 91 at most stations some swap the 91 for E85.
I run 87 most the time 89 with 10% once in a while.

af_juicy 02-29-2012 01:29 PM

I would stay away from that racetrak gas, and you guys may not know but most gas comes from the same refineries the only different is the additives that each brand name puts in them. My uncles company delivers gas all along the gulf coast and they only haul from two or three refineries but deliver to all brands. I am partial to Chevron also as they are the one that signs my pay check every month. As employees we get $0.10 off per gallon if we use our Chevron credit card and pay our monthly balance on time

Snailpower 02-29-2012 01:32 PM

We have Marine gas in town (ethanol free) but it is .50 more expensive than regular. The ethonol free gas is ALL I run in my lawn esuipment and motorcycles. Ethanol is nasty stuff and gums up small carbs really easily, let alone eating up the small plastic fuel lines. Corn is for eatin, not burning in an engine....
