I've been looking into going to a Jeep Jamboree event. In particular, I'm looking at going to an event at the Badlands in Indiana (I recently movd out to the Chicago area).
I'm fairly new to offroading (only been out a few times in the Arizona desert when I was in high school and college screwing around), so I figure this would be a good way to get a better understanding and learning on offroading.
Has anyone been to one of these events? Is it worth the money? Is it a good way to learn how to offroad? Is it a good event to bring friends along? Is this something a couple of young, single people would enjoy or is it more of a family thing?
IMO... I think they cost too much. You can bring friends but it's gonna cost more thru the Jamboree then planning your own trip to the Badlands.
You could easily find a 4x4 club or group in your area and go with them or even check posts on this forum or Jeepforum.com since there are always people going to the Badlands. I usually go there twice a year since it's a 6hr drive and have to tow my "Beast"
4x4 groups and clubs are more then willing to show ya around and help ya out as well, its one of the best way to get to know your Jeep and meet other wheeling friend.
Look under the Great Lake Wheeling thread....

Jeep Jamborees worth the $?
They do the Rubicon out here in NorCal :-D
I thought about doing it, but I don't think I'll have the availability.
I found the Jeep Jamboree interesting but not really anything for a novice to learn anything. Too many rigs in line waiting to take the time to learn something.
Better to join a local club and put the money towards mods that will enhance such as winch, winch, winch, tires, etc.
After a period of local travel you will be able to participate and get more out of the Jamboree.
