Question regarding TF leveling kit and wheel spacers

Im new to the whole Jeep thing so bear with me. I have a '10 JKU sahara that will most likely never see any real off road time. After doing some reading I think I'm going to go with the TF leveling kit before I get new wheels and tires. I noticed that it said to use wheel spacers if you are keeping your stock wheels. I don't understand the reason for that. Any help and advice is always appreciated.

That kit comes with longer rear swaybar links I believe. The stock wheel has 6.25 of backspacing, which keeps the tire/wheel tucked under the flares.
The new extended links may hit the wheel.

Best advice. Get yourself new wheels with less backspacing ( 4.5 ) and you won't need the wheel spacers :)

Thanks for the reply. Wheel spacers are for wheels with a wider width, correct? I was thinking of going with 17x9s. So if the wheel has more than 4.5" of backspace I would need spacers, less than that I would not?

The TF leveling kit comes with new front sway bar links. They are longer than the stock sways to accomodate the lift from the spacers.
If you get new wheels and tires make sure the wheels have around 4.5 inches of backspacing and you won't have to worry about wheel spacers.

Here is a 17x9 wheel with 4.5 inches of bs.

And you have wheel spacers?

No.... The new wheel will have less BS.

You won't need spacers.

So I could go with:

17x9 w/4.5" backspace
285/70/17
TF leveling kit
NO backspacers?

That'll work. Because of the 4.5" bs, you won't need wheel spacers. Everything else on your list looks good.

This is how bs works: Your stock wheel has 6.25" bs, which means the wheel sits very tight on the Jeep. 4.5" bs would push each wheel 1.75" farther out from your Jeep.

In other words, the lower the bs #, the more your wheels will stick out from your Jeep. Make sense? :thumb:

Sell the "safety" aspect. Don't mention mileage. :D
