So it was mentioned in the TJ pictures thread I might have a bent rod
Please look at these and tell me if you think I do, and IF I do whether its worth replacing. The only funky thing ive noticed is that when you are going straight the steering wheel is turned slightly to the left but I figured that was just alignment - thanks
Hmm... maybe it was just the angle of the picture. But in the last one you posted here, it does look like the tie-rod does have a bit of a curve to it. Do you have any mechanic friends? I'd have them take a look at it as these pics are kind of deceiving.
nah ill have to take it to Firestone or something I guess, need to to look at the steering wheel thing, and also theres a single knock when I turn sometimes.
Between your pitman arm, and steering dampener, you will notice two bolts, and nuts. To center your steering wheel, simply loosen those two nuts, and turn the sleeve either way, to align your steering wheel. The tie rod does not look too bad, but it may have been straightened, already. They are easy enough to replace, and if you plan to wheel it, upgrade it..........
Well unlike my last car which I bought new, im not going to stress about little thing on this one. It works fine, makes lots of knocks rattles and bumps and I love em all!
I'll replace it when I cant steer any more, this Jeep is supposed to be fun not the constant worry my last car was because it was tuned to the knife edge and always giving me little niggly things to worry about + the occasional massive repair bill when I blew the head gaskets to pieces with 25 llbs of boost LOL
I suppose as a daily driver/school run/grocery store/pleasure driver it needs to be safe though but so far theres nothing to make me think it isnt
If everything stays tight, there really isn't much to worry about.
