Deposit $$ for a Factory Order?

Is there a standard deposit amount when placing a factory order. I spoke to three dealerships and each told me something different.

1. $500

2. $1000

$ Zero!

Any guidance on what is standard?

Whether or not a deposit is required is up to the individual dealer. Like you found out, some want a deposit, some don't.

I put down $1,000 refundable. Dealer only asked for $500. I wanted dealer obliged to sell me the Jeep.

Comac90 03-04-2012 09:35 PM

I dont know a standard, but I put down $0.

The amount depends on the dealer. A couple years ago, my wife ordered a Dodge Journey and had to do a $500 deposit. I had to do $1,000 deposit on my JK cause it was a half door model They didn't feel he could sell if I backed out.

My dealer pretty much said I could put down whatever I wanted, up to $2000.00.

What is the discount for putting money down? You know some one is going to be using that money till your Jeep gets their. Just 2'c's

Most of the a$$ clown dealerships where I live want a deposit to even talk about buying, I laugh, but it seems to be a standard practice.

I would however put $1k down if I was ordering no problem.

Are YOU getting more than .1% on your money? On $1,000, thats $1 for a year, hardly enough to worry about.:D

Vanne 03-04-2012 11:29 PM

I put down 10 percent ; )
I wanted it /that/ bad!!!! :D

1K required for military car sales overseas.

It depends what you order. If you get a black on black sahara, the dealer may be comfortable with $500. I ordered a Crush orange JKU loaded to the gills, so the dealer wanted $3000.

rs87277 03-05-2012 05:54 AM

I had to put 1k down to hold my Jeep

kik 03-05-2012 06:37 AM

I did 500 on an order.

Raz65 03-05-2012 07:19 AM

$1000 seems to be standard around here.

Feta2006 03-05-2012 08:14 AM

My dealer asked for $500 refundable, regardless of what color or options. I have a Crusk JK just finish production inspection!

The guy on the coner would get $50 a week :hide:!

Sparkplugg 03-05-2012 12:30 PM

My dealer said "Just write a check for whatever."

basecamper 03-05-2012 02:25 PM

$0 on my JK but $500 on my two previous vehicles both ordered.

team38tim 03-05-2012 02:30 PM

I just ordered 2012 JKU MW3 the dealer did not require any deposit. But I have ordered other specailty cars like a Shelby GT500 and dealer only asked for $500. Either way a deposit is refundable if you do not take delivery of he vehicle unless written otherwise.

MPScan 03-05-2012 02:45 PM

While some dealers have set policies and set amounts they charge... at the end of the day, the amount of any deposit necessary will always correlate to the ability of the dealer to get rid of the vehicle should you back out. They simply don't want to be stuck with a vehicle that has unpopular options in a rare color a month before the next model year starts production.

GonzoBobH 03-05-2012 05:00 PM

Gecko JKU, $500 in an un-cashed check they hold.

firehawk 03-05-2012 05:10 PM

deposit

,hi, my dealer did not require a deposit but i did leave my trade in
when i placed my order. i was told that it may change my trade in amount
so i said ok and left my trade in, i used my wifes car and it did save some
money on my auto insurance, worked ok for me...:whistling:

Can I borrow some money? Haha

MikeV 03-05-2012 05:42 PM

No deposit required and I'm still driving the car I'm going to trade in. I ordered a soft top manual tranny Rubicon. Hopefully it's here within the next month.

withay 03-05-2012 06:37 PM

My dealer asked for $200 (2/29/12), gave him my CC#, he hasn't charged it yet.

Captchris 03-05-2012 07:14 PM

My dealer asked for 10% down to place the order. They cashed the check 3 days later.
