I am fixing up a 89 YJ with my son as a project and it will be his first vehicle. I need to ask a question that is probably simple, but i have not tried this yet.
My YJ has a soft top with half doors. How difficult is it to adapt the jeep top a hard top? Can I just strip off the soft top and bolt down the hard top?
Any help or guidance will be appreciated !!!!!!

All you have to do is remove your soft top and all the hardware including the rails that are screwed down along the sides and rear. Then you just throw the hard top on and bolt it down.

Pretty easy. All soft top hardware needs to be removed. Half doors will need new rounded uppers or full hard doors to seal properly. I swap my softop off every winter but I have full doors so it's no big deal.

Yes just strip off the soft top frame and the tracks save the bolts and screws, hard tops go on over your roll bars and bolt down using the track hardware.

strip off all soft top hardware: tracks, windshield strip, plastic door pillars. rectangular track nuts can be reused, but sometimes the bolts are slightly short.

If the hard top is going to be permanent or longterm you could buy the seals for hardtop. also make sure the seals on the hardop to windsheild are there, if not get those also.

As for sealing the top at the windshield here is an old trick I've done for years. Take an innertube from a bike tire, cut the valve stem out and then cut the tube length wise and you have a piece of rubber like this ^ lay over the windshield fame and install the top.

ok i have done what you are doing, got lucky and found a hardtop for 150, he gave me the full doors as they were rusted bad, like everyone is saying remove all your soft top hardware.last i researched it you cant get a soft upper to work with a hardtop , there is no logic to it they look like the will fit but wont . there is a right up if you buy tj uppers you can cut the rear pin and the will fit up to the cj/yj hardtop, not hard at all.. please correct me if anyone has proof otherwise , cause im looking to buy a new soft top kit with uppers..if you have a cj hardtop i can give you detailed with piucture instructions of how to fit this hardtop on your yj..only a few minor differences vs the yj top that is easily overcome ..got one on my yj now..just email me
