shock moving side to side??

Every since I bought the jeep back in january, there has been a rattling noise when I hit bumps coming from the rear passenger side. So I finally decided to just start checking everything. I started with the shocks and this is what I found. The shock moves side to side. How do I fix this? I can't see if there is a bolt I need to tighten or what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how to embed the video clip into the thread so here is the link.

Get new shock bushings. That's the hourglass shaped piece. Or get new shocks with new bushings.

Yep, that bushing to the right of the shock eye is supposed to be "inside" the shock eye. You can pull the shock off and try to get it back in there but I don't think it will ever stay in there again.

thanks guys. I didn't really care for the rc shocks anyways, and now I have a justified reason to get new shocks.

since I imagine I've been driving it like this since january and taken it on some trails, is it ok to still drive regularly?

ya...should be fine, will just continue to destory the bushing and maybe the shock eyelet, shouldn't affect anything on jeep...I would start spraying those upper mounts with pb blast every day for about a week before you decide to change them out those can be a real pia....if you go in from the top of the frame and inner fender you can see the threads..

X1000 on spraying before trying to remove bolts. I broke 2 and had to drill them out.

that is a blown shock bushing. this common for lifts lacking proper bumpstop extensions and/or using poor quality bushing material.

as said, spray the bolts liberally with PB Blaster for several days before removal. Install some quality shocks of the proper length for your suspension height, set the bumpstop extensions to take care of those new shocks, and never worry about it again.

Hey, listen to these guys. PB Blast these bolt for 2 weeks straight before trying to remove bolts. You will have heartburn, if you are impatient and attempt. Remove bolts hopefully w/o stripping bolt head and then replace bushings or get new shocks ie Bilstein 5100s etc.
