Petite Jean area trails

We are heading up from Texas for spring break next week. Any recommendations for us beginners? We are wanting to break in the new jeep...haven't had it offroading yet and sooo excited!

NightRider08JK 03-05-2012 10:41 PM

I'm not that close to Texarkana but I do work at a dealership in LR. If you're needing stuff installed and you don't mind the drive I can help you if you wanna pick a day to knock some stuff out.

NightRider08JK 03-05-2012 11:13 PM

Meant to post that in your other thread btw but you get the idea lol.

Thanks for the offer and if we are ever up your way may take you up on it! We are coming from the Dallas area and want to make good time getting to our cabin. Thanks so much!

Petit Jean as in Mt. Petit Jean State Park? thats in my back yard. dont know of any jeep trails there. I can find out.

Tough Love 03-06-2012 07:16 PM

Yup. We are spending a couple of days each at Petit Jean and Mt Magazine. If you find anything for us that would be great! Thx!

yj95wrangler 03-06-2012 08:51 PM

Tough Love 03-06-2012 09:57 PM

I just looked you up on the map. Very cool! We can't wait to get out of the burbs of Dallas and get outdoors for a while! We appreciate any help you can give us.

Well I hope you enjoy your stay:thumb: I live in Russellville like YJ95 and I'd be happy to drive down and hang out but I'm leaving this weekend to go to Mississippi for a job. Wish I could come hang out but hopefully these AR guys/gals will treat you right while I'm gone. Have fun and next time yall come up I'll bring the beer for the trails;)

Wonder how many times I've been by your place? We stay at Nebo a few days at least once a year.

yj95wrangler 03-07-2012 07:43 AM

Really? thats great man. Hey next time you come if ya need anything powder coated for your jeep bring it. My shop is 1 mile from Nebo Road. I go up there year round watch deer, go mtn biking, etc. Grew up on that mtn.

Tough Love 03-07-2012 09:43 AM

Thx jmcc75! I am sure it will be a great time. Bringing our mountain bikes and just looking forward to being outdoors...even if it's raining! I am new to the forum but next time I will give some notice so we can get a group together!

I'll be up there in sept or oct this year. I'll get with you in advance.

yj95wrangler 03-08-2012 09:26 AM

Yeah man sounds great, we'll get together and hang out.

Tough Love 03-08-2012 10:04 AM

Hey yj! Were you able to find out anything for us? We're not opposed to driving your way if there are trails around nebo...think you are only about an hour from where we are staying. If not, no prob...appreciate your help!

yj95wrangler 03-09-2012 07:18 AM

Tough, hey I apologize, I'm having trouble finding trails to go Jeepin on around Petit Jean. There are tons of nice country roads and backboards all on and around the mountain. Most actual trails are hiking/mtn. Biking trails. I've not given up hope yet.

jmcc75 03-09-2012 07:42 AM

YJ you should take them up to the dover lights;)

yj95wrangler 03-09-2012 07:54 AM

Yeah thats some pretty good trails but over an hour drive from where they will be,

jmcc75 03-09-2012 07:59 AM

They're driving from a state away I don't think an extra hour will hurt plus if they're lucky they can see the lights and that's some trippy sh!t haha

Tough Love 03-09-2012 12:50 PM

Thank you for the suggestion! We are all loaded up and ready for the trip. Hope to see the Dover Lights on Sunday.

Where exactly is that my mother in law lives in Dardanelle that would give me an excuse to take the wife and kids to see her. I think we may even be going up there a couple days in two weeks.

jmcc75 03-09-2012 07:45 PM

Take highway 7 north until you reach "old" highway 7 (it will be a left off of highway 7 and there's a horse ranch right as you turn off). Keep driving til you hit dirt. Turn right off of the blacktop. Stay on that road and drive til you find a small rock wall. It's an over look and that's where the lights are said to be seen:thumb: I hope everyone enjoys their stay. Remember, if you see the lights, don't worry its just lost souls of silver miners!!!!!(cue dramatic/creepy music in the background haha).

firemt04 03-09-2012 07:53 PM

Awesome thanks.

yj95wrangler 03-09-2012 08:52 PM

Goodbye AR! Thanks for your help and hospitality. We had a great visit. :thumb:

yj95wrangler 03-13-2012 09:15 PM

How was your visit? Hope you enjoyed your stay, sorry about the bad weather we had part of the time. Thats Arkansas though, our motto is if you dont like the Weather stick around 5 minutes itll change.

Tough Love 03-14-2012 12:25 PM

Haha! We have that same motto in TX. We had a great time...lots of hiking and mountain biking. Didn't make it off road since we lost a day to the fog...but a great trip otherwise!
