Help on what to do first
I have a new to me 2005 LJ Rubicon completely stock except for 265/75R 16 tires (bought used tires, no rubs...yet). I'd like to do a lift (OME Ultimate from DPG), front and rear bumpers from Rockhard, winch (I like the Warn Powerplant) and new wheels and tires.

The Jeep is going to be a driver and be used for some desert wheelin on weekends. I bought this to give to my son who is really into the whole wheelin deal, especially after going down to Tierra del Sol this weekend, where I gave him his first time behind the wheel in the dirt. Wow, he was one happy kid.

So I'm not Bill Gates and am trying to figure out what to do first knowing that eventually I intend to help him out with everything I listed above (assuming he meets his end of the deal on school, etc). But all that stuff hits up somewhere in the vicinity of $6 grand.

So where would a guy of limited means begin?

I would guess then that the lift would be first and deal with the rest as savings allows?

I guess the question I have is "Why do you even feel it needs to be changed?" I'd get a Warn winch and run it as is for desert wheelin. :thumb:

It's an LJ Rubicon. If you're looking at light weekend wheeling duty, I'd add a steering box Skid and a gas tank skid. That's it.

If you really want a winch, go cheap. You be amazed at how little it gets used, if at all.

Like RubiCobra says, the winch is the last thing I would spend my money on. I am sure there are going to be others that think I am wrong but I have never been in a position to justify spending money on a winch. You have the Rubicon and it will pretty much do what ever you want it to. Do the small lift as you mention as it looks better and that is a great suspension lift.

Small lift with adjustable rate shocks to handle the dune running. Basically what you want for the dunes is a Pre-Runner style Jeep. And with adjustable rate shocks the Lj will be good for sand and dirt. I'd also give the Jeep a tuner and cat back to give it more power in the sand. Blasting thru dunes requires horsepower and rock crawling requires torque but you can build a good all around wheeler with the proper instruction. Look up Evolution Offroad they are in SoCal which is where you seem to be by your post. They can give you good insight
