Jeep Trailers Share and Tell!

Share pros, cons, got a picture? Do you take it with you most of the time? Did you build it yourself?

Not for sale trailers...

Good idea! I've seen a bunch of them out there and have been thinking about getting one myself that maybe has an option to have a tent on top like the safari ones I've seen. But I'd really like to use it as a trailer and just add the tent option for multi-day trail rides/camping trips. Subscribed!

 Are you referring to trailers that you pull behind a Jeep or trailers that you carry a Jeep on?

Flea Bite 03-06-2012 04:31 PM

Pull Behind

Thanks, I designed and built the hardtop too.

After I built the one for my Jeep, I licensed the design to a hardtop company, they're working on bringing it to the market.

SilverSahara 03-07-2012 08:02 PM

WOW, nice work!

Ooh, I like that. Been looking at similar rigs but I'm happy with a tent and I have a trailer cargo rack that is sufficient.

This is my Fleetwood that finally got me out of tents and often just sleeping on the ground. With probably 150 nights camping in all kinds of tents, large and small, I'm done with tents!

Not to mention this size pop-up trailer, even when loaded, is within the Wrangler's 2K lb. max safe towing weight limit. My TJ tows it almost like it wasn't there.

Since this thread is about trailers, I won't hijack the thread by posting a photo of the TJ version, but there are lots of concept photo/drawings in the Safari Cab thread over on JeepForum.

Pretty much :).

Back to trailers, besides the black one, I also built this one:

http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...r/Tonneau6.jpg

The tub is 7' 5" long, and made from steel. I also used the molds from the LJ hardtop to make a prototype camper top for it, here it is in a very early stage, no windows yet, not painted...

That lil red Jeep in the background perked my interest. I know this is a thread on trailers, but could you tell all about it? :thumb:

What kind of top do u have on the jeep? Nevermind just read the whole page still sweet though!

Modified mine from a light utility trailer with a 1 ton axle. I couldn't live without the pintle hook, and being able to screw the lunette ring out is certainly a nice theft deterrent.. Using the trailer to pack all our camping gear, along with 21 gallons of water, we are able to stay out for 4 to 5 days at a time.. There is also a very near complete galley on the rear deck. We've just recently upgraded our rubber so now we have 255/85/16s on all 7 wheels. When not used for our excursions the trailer is used as a utility trailer.
