There's a few of us in Ventura; right down the hill. We're running Calico this weekend if you'd like to come. There's about 6-7 of us going right now...we always welcome newbies :)

For sure... I'm down in Silverstrand Beach

Xjman1 03-07-2012 04:58 PM

Done em all except the Rubicon. Most were in my good ol XJ days. I run with Pt Mugu 4X4 club from time to time.

Xjman1 03-07-2012 04:59 PM

Oh yeah, spend a lot of time chilling at Silver Strand over by the La Janelle ship wreck. A favorite local spot for the wife and I to grab a lunch and relax.

Those guys just don't wheel enough (anymore) I'm good friends with JP and Brett's done a lot of my work. MJR seems to have some eager people to wheel..I post everywhere...I just want to wheel/camp...often. If I go too many weeks in between, I get grouchy

Bimota Bruce 03-08-2012 01:16 AM

I'm near Calabasas.

Medicjt87 03-13-2012 11:26 AM

I'm in t.o.

XMRacer 03-16-2012 12:10 AM

I'm in Moorpark. New to this forum but not to wheeling.
If you post it I will go, and probably drag a few friends along.

Looks like we need a forum meet-n-greet camping trip!

Medicjt87 03-18-2012 01:26 PM

Looking for wheeling buddies

MickeYJ 03-19-2012 02:42 AM

I H8DS - Unfortunately this week-end I have to go to Kingman, AZ. I am a retired Navy Chief. Currently work for PWD VC. Since I am new to the jeep thing, I will have to limit myself to the learner stuff first. Just watched your video from Calico - don't think I will be there on my first time out.... ;-)

XMRacer 03-22-2012 07:58 PM

Hey Chief, Retired AT1 here... There are parts of Calico that would be rough but if you don't mind scratching the paint and getting a little pull through a spot or two then you could make Calico. I was given this advice when I first got my Jeep and was probably the best advice I was given'; wheel it stock for as long as you can, therefore you will learn what you like to do and your skill will develop faster than the capability of the jeep, then you can build the jeep to do what you like doing. A rock crawler is different than a mudder.
I H8RDS... Next weekend being the 24th or the 31st? I love Calico (where I learned to wheel) and would love to go again.

You have everything in Calico...mild to wild...that video was fun right??!!! I had a blast! I'm rolling to Calico March 29- April 1st. It's an annual event with MJR. Come on out! We're all camping in Mule Canyon. I can not wait to get back out there..I'm dyin'! I honestly can't go more than 1 weekend without wheeling...man I love it!

You may not be ready for that offshoot off Doran Loop, but if you have at least a few inches lift and 33's, you can do Doran. I have several friends who do it with open diffs. There's going to be every kind of run going next weekend..very easy to difficult. Calico is a great place to learn to wheel...you'd be amazed at what your rig is really capable of. Come out next time! I wheel a lot...I post all my runs on myjeeprocks.com. Awesome people there and people who want to wheel.

Iwanna 03-23-2012 03:09 PM

The jeep that I bought has a 2" lift and 31x10.50x15's. It has disconnect for the sway bar, although I think thay are install upside down (just can't imagine that the long piece should be hanging off the axle.)

I am not sure about scratching the paint to much yet. However camping is in!!!!

I am sure yo folks will break me in.

Iwanna 03-23-2012 03:10 PM

please keep me in the loop for future trips...

I'll post my runs here as well as MJR. I usually wheel every 2 weeks...sometimes I'll wait 3 weeks, but I get cranky if I have to wait that long. Miller Jeep Trail will be opening end of May..there's other trails out that way as well. You can do all of them with your set up...you could actually do Calico with your set up as well...you may just need a strap in a couple places, but for the most part, you'd be fine. As for body damage..it can happen, but you can get through the trails without scratching your paint. Do you have sliders? That is probably something you want to get, and take a look at your tie rod. The stock tie rod isn't too beefy..and you bend that, we'll have to winch it straight enough to get you back to camp :) Been there, done that for my buddy's CJ.

Looking forward to wheelin' with you! :thumb: Lorie

Oh, and ya, sounds like your disconnects are on wrong.

Iwanna 03-26-2012 12:03 PM

Getting out there

AT1 - I am looking forward to just jetting out and off the superslabs.

I like your advice. Don't want to tear up the jeep just yet. Getting outback is great, but I do not see some of the serious rock crawling happening.

My jeep has a 2" Rancho Lift and CAI.

Dan
