Calling Mamba Wheel owners...
Yet another discussion about wheels/tires/backspacing... sorry!
I was all set to pull the trigger on a set of Mamba M3 wheels for my 2012 JKU... but after talking to a guy at Mamba... he suggested going with a 9" wheel, or I may need to add spacers. I'm running Spidertrax wheels spacers on my 08 Wrangler since I'm still running stock wheels. Spidertrax states in the packaging that the spacers are for offroad use only. I've often wondered if I was to get in a wreck and some investigator found that I was running offroad only authorized spacers... whether I could get sued.
That said... I really don't want to run spacers on my 2012.
Can anyone tell me if I run these Mamba 8" wheels (with 4.75 backspacing) and 285/75/17 Toyo Open Country MTs... will they rub?
As mentioned, I'm running stock rims on my 08 with 275/70/18 Toyos and 1 1/2" wheel spacers and only slightly rub when turning lock to lock.
Think I may have found the answer to my own question:
Stock (Sahara) JK wheels. Backspacing = 6.25"
Toyo Open Country MTs (275/70/18) 33.6" H x 11" W
Spidertrax 1-1/2" spacers
With the spacers, my wheels basically become 4.75 backspacing and I still rub slightly from lock to lock.
Mamba M3 wheels. Backspacing = 4.75"
Toyo Open Country MTs (285/75/17) 34.1" H x 11.6" W
With the new tire radius increasing by 1/4" and the width increasing by 1/2"... looks like I'll most likely rub slightly again.
I'm planning an AEV 2-1/2" lift... wondering if that will help at all?
