Federal tires

Any opinions on 285/75-16 Federal couragia (I think). Comes with flat black "GEAR" rims for around $1,100. Set of four. Looking forward to your info/opinions.

The PO had just put a set of 31 x 10.50 x 15 Couragia MT's on right before I bought my 97. They do pretty well in the mud and handle decently on the highway. They do whine a little, but not bad at all. They also seem to be wearing ok.

I ran the 285's on my Rubi for a few years and loved them, they worked awesome out on the trails in mud and rock crawling.

I did an intial tire review of them a while back when I was the first to look at buying them.

Theres a review on here and a better review over on Jeepforum.com in the tires thread.
Just search my name or Federal Couragia MT

I had never heard of them until I bought my TJ. Your's was one of the first things I read online about them. :thumb:

I had been impressed about looks and price , but found several reviews complaining about the side walls splitting . I started looking at trucks with these on them and sure enough some of them with half plus tread had side walls split. I decided against them.

Interesting... cause I ran these for a few year and wheeled the crap out of them in the rocks and trails and never had an issue. I guess to each their own.

I read the reviews on the Federal web site about the split side walls. I have seen several sets on vehicles almost worn out , with no side wall splits . I was saying just for me, the way my luck goes ,if I put that much money in tires ,they would probably split. I do not know what makes them split whether it be use or workmanship. Was just putting the info out there . Thanks.
