Where to get OEM leather seats?

After test driving a '12 with the leather seats I really came to appreciate the extra butt room and nice back support.

I've searched ebay and there's nothing there. Can someone throw me any leads?
Any ideas how much they would cost brand new from the dealer?

Well... The factory seats are stripped of their fabric and replaced with leather. Katzkin does the leather for jeep.
So they are not covers.

Do Katzkin people come out to do it or does the stealership do the work?

Not sure on that.

Chris@bosak 03-09-2012 12:36 AM

It depends on the dealer. My dealership sends the work out to a custom shop to install the leather seats. Takes about 2 days once the the parts dept gets the leather in. We put the customer in a rental for that time. The cost is about $1,200 but can be more if you want to get really fancy with it otherwise $1,200.

Every seat done on every make and model are seat covers. Velcro holds the tucked parts and of Course Hog Pins hold the areas that move....They are all seat covers, slipped on and and pinned wear needed.

The only other way would to do them the same way you do your Chair at home and that is several pcs to put together...each arm, sides, back, skirt, under cushion, seat back etc and that because of padding,

cushions etc and use staples. Seats have been done in Two pc slip on for years....They are more durable and less labor cost. if you fit Fabric or Leather like you do Home Furniture, on Metal frames with light weight foam and tons of open areas,. Where are you going to staple, using to many

Hog pins will do nothing but rip the Material from all the movement....For fun on it...take your seat out of jeep and set up on bench...will take you 15 mins to get off....it's crazy to see how the framing is made and how the sides look full until you lift them off to see it is just a metal curved rod shaping the look of a padding seat...

If you look in the Build sheets that list every part on a model down to the sticker, they are listed as a cover and are slipped on like a cover during the build

Look at this old video and how each working does their part in 88 secs...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ7tTynQjHY

2003-2006 truck seat...watch and listen to him say the whole front is held by one clip.
they are 2 seat covers each gets slipped on and tuck or pinned to hold under seat. VELCRO...lol

$2200 for heated leathers and $1690 for just the leather... That's the labour as well. A full day job in the shop but the dealership will do it for you no problem! Just have to pay!

We paid slightly more than 2200 (with heated seats), as our shop installed extra lumbar pad and rear seat area foam on both front seats. After this upgrade, our bottoms and backs hurt no-more !

Order the katskin from eBay (make sure they're authentic) and have a local shop do the install for u. I done that with perfect results

JKBrad 02-13-2013 10:21 AM

This company also does a lot of dealer work. I've used them before, high quality stuff.

Classic Soft Trim

Over two Grand for leather seats when 2/3 of it is a Vinyl....WoW....for fun i jumped on Mercedes website to see what the charge...For a little less then here, they even have extra Leather on the Headliner....lol...And the Leather over at Benz sure to be much
Higher Quality Leather of Course....
I have read alot of Wrangler owners getting leather for first time, thought that seats are all leather.
Seats have never been that wasteful or low profitted from cost to do a whole seat.
That's why Chrysler had to change the way they advertise Leather in the Wrangler, because of Owners complaints......to Leather Trim.....It's always been, There is Leather where ever your skin would touch in the correct seating....lol..
The cost to do complete Leather for one thing, have to know a little in Textile world,

that for a seat to have all leather would require more then a full skin could provide. It is a natural product and not engineered to get every inch used or be able to....Most Hides are from animals much smaller then a Cow...lol

sircody 02-13-2013 11:11 AM

I'd like to see this become a Mod and do it with more Quality and cheapppppppper...I'll Help anyone that is goning to or wants to if in my area...I might can help alot....Plus i have a Leather Machine i need to break the new in....lol...

Come on..Let's do it

KrisOh 08-03-2014 02:14 PM

will katzkins made for a JK without side airbags fit on seats that do have side airbags?

DrSaw 08-03-2014 03:29 PM

American Sunroof Corporation They do a lot of the work for dealerships - go right to them

landi jeep 08-03-2014 03:38 PM

Well. Looks like I paid a fair price. Thought I was overpaying @1350 installed katzkin premium leather kit with perforated inserts and contrast stitching. Was going to take some pics after work today. No heated seats.

Oh, the first thing I noticed beside how great they looked, was how great they feel.

Edbert 04-05-2016 09:25 AM

Mine came with factory leather seats, with "Rubicon" embroidered in the seat backs. I'm wondering (since I want to run soft-top / no-top) if I should get neoprene covers and put it on top of the leather or remove the factory seat covers and replace with neoprene.

Two things considered; would the seat covers fit loose since they are designed to go over the top of (fabric) seats, and should I sell the factory leather to fund the neoprene or just store them (with the removed back seat) for the time when I sell the thing?

Catamount 04-05-2016 09:43 AM

There is a difference between the leather trimmed seats and the upgraded leather package. My seats say Jeep on them and they are full leather. The leather trimmed ones aren't as nice. They had to send my jeep away for 2 days to do the upgraded leather install.

EdwardB 04-05-2016 12:54 PM

Our Altitude came with heated leather seats and they are incredibly comfortable for the longest drives. Just about the best I've ever had in a car, and I've had a lot of cars since 1950!

jcarbs77 04-05-2016 04:21 PM

If you shop around you can do katzkin leather, perforated seats, with the katzkin seat heaters installed for around $1,800. They look great and we have been pleased with the comfort as well. I checked custom leather shops for similar in the Houston area and with tax was about $500 more. After seeing the katzkin product at our auto show, I decided to go with them instead of totally custom. I believe you would be pleased.

JKUR with factory cloth. Bought 100% leather Katzkin for 550 off Ebay. Payed 300 for install at local shop. Perfect.

jericbarg 04-09-2016 10:54 PM

I also purchased Katzkin off ebay for $550, my son and I installed them Friday evening, Not a bad job at all.

I did this as well. Bought the Katzkins from a reseller and seat heater kits from Amazon. My dad and I did the install on a Sunday afternoon. Not bad at all.

Look carefully

OP: you may need to look carefully. The better seats came out in 2013, not 2012.

I owned 2008, 2009 and 2012 JKs; the 2012 had leather seats; they all had the same flat shape. It wasn't until I got my current 2013 and 2014 that I got the better seats.

BTW, you do not need leather to get the added contour and support. Even the fabric seats in 2013+ JKs have the same added comfort.

Good luck!

sbollin 04-25-2016 12:12 AM

I saw the ones on eBay for $550. For those who purchased, are they real Katzkin genuine leather? Not sure if there are knockoffs out there? The ones on ebay were all black. Is the stitching black as well or white?

EdwardB 04-26-2016 12:02 PM

Our build sheet shows '*VL Black Leather Seats w/Accent Stitch'. The stitches are as black as the leather, but there are double raised rows of stitching, not just a single row. Maybe that's the "accent".

good luck finding oem leather seats for under the price of the Katzkins too

Katzkin were at Jeep Beach and a local installer from Orlando was with them. He quoted a Jeep Beach special of $1095 installed.
