Do winches get stolen often?

I haven't had a winch since my 77 CJ and I'm looking at a Superwinch or maybe a Warn for my 2012 JKU. My question is do guys get ripped off often? I park my JK outside and park at the airport I was wondering if I should look at tack welding the mounting bolt nuts. Any theft prevention ideas other than the obvious of big dogs or Glocks?

Anybody had a bolted down winch stolen?

It's not much but this was my way of thinking. I used the original Torx head bolts to mount my winch on my bumper, not the new regular bolts that came with it. Not many people carry a Torx bit set around with them. (probably not true, but it makes me feel a little better!). LOL!

that's a good idea. I'm going to do that on Monday when I put my winch and bumper on. Thanks for the idea.

Not sure on the theft average, but if they want it, its theres. Grinders go through any bolt head in seconds

X2 on that.
Don't know anybody that's had their winch lifted. I figure it's too labor intensive and time consuming to try to remove them. Most dirtbags are looking for the quick easy grab. But I could see it happen if you're parked in a dark, remote area.

I had one on a cherokee for years and never had issues but then again we tack welded the nuts. A grinder will get through it but it was pretty hard to get to and most thieves want something fast to steal.
