Fuel pump replacement questions

So I was trying to replace my gas tank skid plate, and in the process snapped the fuel line outlet on the fuel pump. So obviously I need to replace the whole pump since its one big molded piece on top.

First of all, I can't get the plug off the old one (the electric plug)

Also, anyone have any suggestions for when I actually take out the old one? I can't really see how its going to come out.

Thanks!

My plug was crusty too but eventually got it with 2 small screwdrivers the pump comes out easy just be careful putting the new one in not to break any thing and hopefully your tank isnt 3/4 full like mine was.

P.S that sucks trying to make things better and end up making them worse that would be my middle name if there was enough room on the birth certificate !!

What year is yours? Mine is an '05, and I know they changed the fuel pump in I think '03.

Where did you put the screw drivers? I tried that...

I've been planning on doing the skid this weekend, so I ran my tank almost dry

i'm trying to scan the pages from Haynes manual as we speak. it appears the 2005 model has a locking nut and some of the earlier models have a different lock. give me a few

not sure if that helps. i know the one pic kind of sucks

jstone326 03-11-2012 06:04 PM

Thanks, but none of those pictures look like my fuel pump, I think its all earlier models.

Also I need to figure out how to disconnect the damn plug

jstone326 03-11-2012 06:13 PM

I just remembered that I have the factory service manual on my computer, so that told me how to take out the pump, but not how to disconnect the electrical connector

your pump doesn't resemble the drawn pic at the bottom of this pic?

I'm in Westchester... what do you mean? You have a fuel pump? Cus I'm pretty sure I need the whole thing as the part that I broke is part of the whole molded top plastic piece

thanks!

Well Im about as far from you as possible while still being in the same state(south of Buffalo) I changed out the pump assy awhile back as I was having issues with the pressure valve on the top of it. Pump was still working fine thats why I kept it
