Removing rear flares?? 2005 TJ

How do i get the rear flares off, without screwing up the riv nuts? Should i take off rear splash guard, first?? How does it come off? Take off wheel?? Help! Thanks!

Yep you'll have to remove the splash guard. Remove the rear wheel, then warm up the splash guard a little to make it so it's not so stiff. I use a shop light myself. You'll see several plastic push-pin retainers at the very top of the guard and lower ends of it. Pull those pins and the splash guard can be moved out of the way so you can have access to the nuts in back for those without captured threaded inserts.

I would say you need to take off the splash guards, but you might not be able to get them back on unless you buy new push-in type fasteners. If you don't take them off, the nuts will probably fall out of place. Are you planning on putting them back on? When I took my flares off, I took out the splash guards and left them off. I personally think it looks better, I just need to spray some undercoating under there to protect the paint from rocks.

While you have the splash guards off give them a paint job so they are nice and black.

I've had mine off four times now and have continued to reuse the OE fasteners. :)

Thanks, I was looking for an easier way, but it doesn't sound too bad. is there a better way to remove the push pins,, so that they may be reused?

I bought a whole bag (25) for $2-3 at the jeep dealer and just cut them off. :D

It wasn't $100 but my Jeep dealer wanted $3 a piece. I bought a bag of 13 at a NAPA store for $6.

You dont need to take off the wheels to do it... I got mine out without removing the wheels... and reused the fatseners

That is true, I just recalled I didn't take my wheels off any of the times I removed the liner. :)
