Was able to find my Ford 8.8 with 4.10 open axle now need to find a D30 with 4.11

spyder98 05-10-2012 08:19 AM

Ok guys little update on my progress I have a brand new 4" lift ready to be installed with 1.5" boomerang shackles. Yesterday I received my SOLID 8.8 diff cover, Ruffstuff 8.8 spring perches and some switches for my lights. How hard is it going to be to install the 8.8? After installing the 8.8 my front end will be re-geared to 4.10's and a spartan locker will be installed. any tips will be appreciated. SYE is in the mail no shaft yet.

I am unable to remove the DS from the TC it seems to be stuck on there. I thought it would slide off like the ones on a TJ. Any help would be appreciated. I was inspecting the u joint on the drive shaft and took one of the cones off and all the little bearing came out. So I'm guessing all my u-joints are in the same condition as this one.

DEERE MAN 05-17-2012 02:57 PM

might be able to hit the back side of the drive shaft yoke with a soft hamer like a deadblow hamer etc. my 93 slide off the the splined shaft on tc. nothing held it on. they get tight if they are slid all the way in the tc. might need a little help with a soft hamer to get started.

Will be ordering my goferit bushings so I can do the tie rod flip this coming weekend. Once I install those the front end should be done. Ill be moving on to the middle section of the jeep, taking off the TC skid, removing the tc drop and taking the tc off to install the SYE and doing an oil change on the tranny. After that is done ill be moving on to the hardest and last part of the jeep installing the 8.8. I wish I had the cash to drop it on 35's but ill be staying with the 33's for a while longer.

spyder98 05-31-2012 08:40 AM

decided not to go with the gofer-it bushings at this point as I will need to tie rods pretty soon. So might as well and upgrade my steering first. SYE arrived in the mail but haven't had time to install it. I drained the TC oil and it was still nice bright red but smelled burnt. My tranny fluid was silver with gold flakes. Hoping with all the maintenance and work im doing to the jeep it will ride a lot better. Well the front end is pretty much done all I need is the extended break lines but its already sitting on its tires.

Just need to install the 8.8. Order my DS and do a full tune up....couple more weeks and it should be done

xEntropYxToucHx 06-03-2012 11:40 AM

Your work is an inspiration! I realized there was so much to do to my 92, but after seeing this I see I need to get crackin! Lookin good buddy.

4Jeepn 06-03-2012 11:52 AM

For my 8.8 install, the shock brackets that came with the ruff stuff kit were not long enough.. i think the shop took the ones off the dana 35 and reused them. In addition you will lose about 1"-1.25" of lift in the back as the axle tube and spring perch are bigger than those on the dana 35.

Thanks, lol it takes a lot of work, time and especially money. I'm getting frustrated because my jeep has been sitting since early March but will be done by the end of this month and I know in the end it will all be worth it.

I mocked up my shock brackets and they seem to be good but will have to double check that. I wanted to see if I can do an add a leaf to the rear springs to raise it that 1" that is lost. Ruff stuff is a good kit but sounds likes its more for a SOA set up then a SUA.

spyder98 06-08-2012 09:05 AM

Okay little update purchased my extended brake lines and was able to install the driver side having some issues with the passenger side the nut is stripped. And was able to purchase 4 35x12.5X15 tires and got the front 2 installed.

Guys I need some help. I am mocking up my 8.8. measuring the end of the axle to the spring perches are 5 1/4 on each side and everything looks pretty centered. Setting my angle is a little bit harder. So far I have the end of my tc at 5* and the diff at 17-18* does this sound correct?

Exploder axles do have an offset diff, its normal as long as your assembly is centered.
