Side bars

can anyone give me some input on some side bars. i would like some black ones and don't want to hit the wallet too hard. anyone know about these

edit: ive seen the ones that require drilling and it makes me wonder how these bars can have a "easy no drill installation". i couldn't find a install pdf.

RedRig2003 01-06-2008 08:36 PM

I just ordered these myself. They are on back order though. I'm just looking for some basic protection with a step for the right price. These were the best I've seen.

tobycat1 01-06-2008 08:37 PM

Ordered them about a week ago from quad, I'll tell ya when I get em.

4Jeepn 01-06-2008 08:44 PM

Looks almost like they fit over the frame body mounts looking at the ends.

robertv 01-06-2008 08:45 PM

dang ,lemme know man

orange05tj 01-06-2008 09:05 PM

They bolt right on. I took mine off and sold them. Took about 20 minutes t install and 10 minutes to take back off. They have brackets that bolt to the steps then you use the body mount bolts. Easy install.

whyd you sell yours? didnt like em?

The bars come with new longer body mount bolts. You'll remove the stock body mount bolts, then run the new bolts back in through the supplied mounting brackets. Then the bars will bolt to the brackets that will hang down just under the body line.

Didn't like the look of them. Plus, it annoys the wife with them gone and I like annoying her

foxinthemudd 01-06-2008 10:07 PM

I got some like that, not the same at all. can't wait to get rid of them and put on some real sliders... however with that said they have saved my ass a few times from stumps and rocks...they'll do for now I guess.

I agree with this. Plus if you wheel at all you will damage them

Mine actually got ripped off when on of my drivers ran into the side of the jeep. So I am putting on poison spyder rock sliders on it

mrbigjeep 01-07-2008 08:21 AM

i took mine off too...didn't like the look at all.

cavediverjc 01-07-2008 10:26 AM

They were all the rage in the late 80's and the 90's. Now they just get in the way. You'd be better off spending your money on a set of actual sliders. They'll be a little more expensive, but you always get what you pay for when it comes to Jeeps. Just my opinion, take it or leave it. Do what you think is best for your style of driving and take all of our opinions with a grain of salt. You know what they say about opinions!!

tobycat1 01-07-2008 05:49 PM

I ordered em so chicks can get in. Some damage is going to come their way, but they're cheap

dbwvu 01-07-2008 05:56 PM

Go for the real deal. I've been drooling over these lately

http://www.nates4x4.com/catalog/prod...products_id=53

seems like the most reasonably priced too

mrbigjeep 01-07-2008 06:07 PM

not that great of a deal.

with the side bar they are $210. plus shipping. bare steel too.

and not only that but they offer virtually no protection underneath and they also don't tie into the bottom in any fashion. so they could cave the rocker in if you slid off a rock.

tobycat1 01-07-2008 06:09 PM

I personally refuse to put any holes in my jeep that would be visible if i remove the part, but thats just me. Plus I like a lower bar, just a style choice for me.

mrbigjeep 01-07-2008 06:11 PM

most people that put on rocker guards don't intend for them to be taken off. i like nerf bars, but only on jacked up full size trucks like a Ram or Silverado. JMO though.

....aaah its a ford. that sucks.

if your jeep is high enough they wouldn't look too bad...most jeeps aren't that high though. starts lookin decent when ya get at least 4" of lift. i still prefer body mounted though :D

tobycat1 01-07-2008 06:18 PM

I have 4", and the lower bars will hide the t-case drop, and I do agree that if it doesn't have a lift it won't look good.

so you dont think it will look good w 31's and no lift?

tobycat1 01-07-2008 07:32 PM

Maybe not, it might make it look a little low..., but thats not as bad as 27" tires with it.

orange05tj 01-07-2008 07:47 PM

It will look something like this. This is when I first got the Jeep and thought that chrome was in style.
