Gas mileage on 37s?

Just like the title says, how do 37 inch tires affect your gas mileage from stock? or compared to 35s even?

daggo66 03-13-2012 07:14 AM

It obviously affects it negatively and worse than 35's. I would imagine it would be in the very low double digits.

tabber02 03-13-2012 08:13 AM

i'd probably throw out... if you can afford to run 37's on a DD you probably don't need to worry about the price of gas.... :whistling:

just sayin! :D

'07 JKU on 37's. Sees trails about every other weekend. 14mpg. If I do a lot of highway driving 16mpg. Upping the wheeling to every weekend, drops to 13mpg.

My '12 JKUR/4.10/36's (measure 35.75" @ 27psi) - 13mpg

nwbronco 03-13-2012 02:30 PM

I have to admit though, I really do not care about the mileage in the rig. It's built the way I want it, and it is up to the task.

Folks love to fudge a bit on there MPG math and seeing a bit of that here I believe. Devicemanager's 13 MPG numbers on 36's with 4:10 gears rings true with my numbers as well. To get 16 mpg on 37's would require a rig with a manual trans, as low to the ground as possible, and lighter then any Jeep I have ever owned and have owned 9 with well over a million miles total drive time....so far :) If mileage matters then 37's should NOT be in your future.

This is one of those "don't ask" things.

mommymallcrawler 01-28-2016 01:24 PM

Sitting at 13.6 on 37s with 5.13 (light two door auto).

TheNoob 01-28-2016 01:28 PM

Just out of curiosity, how is that setup doing for you running 37's on the 3.73 gearing. 3.6 motor?

Derekhie 01-28-2016 01:37 PM

Never looked before...

I was expecting it to be miserable, from what I would read on forums. Its actually manageable, IMO. Still plan on regearing, but not as soon as I first thought.

JBVette 01-28-2016 02:08 PM

I took the Jeep on a road trip, all highway, from Lakeland area to St. Augustine. I was up to 17.5 at one point on the highway on my 37's. But normally around 14.5 around town.

nvjeep 01-28-2016 02:10 PM

16mpg with 37s 6spd. All around town driving.

Did you adjust your speedo and tire size with a programmer? How are you calculating your mpg? That seems way too high for city driving. I'm lucky to get that on the highway and I have the same set up as you

Odd question but how fast can you drive with that setup and still feel comfortable? is the 13.8 combined or mostly highway?

Hmmm. So on 37's. You regeared from 3.73 to 5.13 and your city driving MPG went down?

That's about what my dash display computer tells me on mine, I am on stock 255/75 MT's and 4.10.

Pretty much all city driving. I didn't notice much of a difference on the highway from 35s to 37s, it cruises comfortable at ~70, it doesn't feel like the engine is being overworked.
