Trading my 2007 for a 2008, need advice please?

Hey all, sorry to be asking all the newb questions... Do parts for a 2007 fit on a 2008? I'm looking to swap up to a 2008 but I'd want to switch the hard top off my 2007 onto the 2008....

Is this possible ?

daggo66 03-16-2012 12:20 PM

Yes.

Nothing wrong with trading for another jeep but why only for an 08?

Fishin Cricket 03-16-2012 03:44 PM

Aluminum wheels
Locking center storage
Trailer hitch
Front bumper has fog lamps and tow hooks
Cloth seats instead of vinyl (not sure if that's good or not)
Cruise control
Green (my preference, my wife prefers the black)
Year newer

And even then I wouldn't consider it if I wasn't a salesman who can circumvent some of the added costs that a "regular" consumer might incur.

Dunno how much it'll cost me to trade, but if I can keep a similar payment (I've only made three payments on the 2007) I'll probably go ahead and do it...

But I just like to trade, frankly. :)

Oh, there's also the benefit of the brand new tires on it vs my half tread.. Did I mention my favorite color is green? (though I'll admit it's the wife's, not mine)

Does anybody know what it would cost to wire this one that had the soft top to put the rear wiper wires in?

Anyone got any guesses as to cost for this procedure? I searched and couldn't find a useful thread, surely someone has installed a hard top onto their Jeep and ran into this?

Please, please please?!? :)

:whistling: Probably the only significant difference between your 07 and the 08, is

You'll now get to endure the infamous TPMS sys, thats supposed to tell you when you have a low pressure tire--good luck !

to each their own...i understand the trade itch, but not a 2007 to 2008. you're just inheriting someone elses problems. why not go for the gusto and trade for a 2012. sorry, understand payments......enjoy.

I have a green 08JK. As much as I like it, there's no way in MY world that it would be worth making the jump of only ONE model year, unless I really HATED it and couldn't breath without the illusory advantages of going to 09.

I lived without my rear window washer for a couple months wondering what happened to it. Once I got to checking it, there was only an unconnected hose. I don't know whether your new hard top has the mechanism already installed, as some models have the unit and some don't. Feature is well worth the cost IMHO.

My own TMPS/whatever it's called, has be of virtually no real benefit. In the course of my 15 months with my Wrangler, the low-pressure alarm has insisted twice I increase the spare air pressure from 32 to 35 #. Such a deal.

Mostly from my own year long search pre-purchase to find what's what in the Wrangler Wrealm (lol), there was precious little difference in 07-08. Mileage/condition certainly is important, and such as model/options to consider.

For me to trade, I'd have to be looking at something far better, as what I have for my needs is virtually perfect, especially for the bargain price I managed to obtain.

Color alone regardless of tire wear is a pretty flimsy excuse to trade into a near-clone, but it's your money....

As was stated, make sure all connections are connected, assuming its already installed. If you are installing after the fact, shouldnt be a terrible issue, run the wires/hose, couple screws and a couple hours of your time.

Thank you for your advice, here's the (almost) finished product...

I still need to take the wires for the rear hatch out of the old jeep, but that shouldn't prove too difficult...

JeeperJake 03-18-2012 11:00 PM

Nice! I prefer the black fenders, but can manage with my khaki top

...now, about that silly grin.....

Fishin Cricket 03-19-2012 07:01 AM

Hehe

No one asked me what I paid in difference price between the two, but I'm so proud I've gotta tell ya... (and I'll look less retarded to those of you that think I'm silly for swapping)

$1900 and I get a year newer plus all the goodies I mentioned above!!

Now I've got a 2007 sittig on the lot for cheap cheap if anyone's interested!! :)

rics1997 03-19-2012 07:26 AM

Love the color. Nice Jeep. All that really matter is that your happy with the deal.

The only real advantage to the 07 model was whether you had the 4:10 optional gear. That was one of the best 07 options that I wish they still offered. But hey, they need something to talk you into a Rubicon you probably don't need.

Fishin Cricket 03-19-2012 09:48 AM

heh, true dat...

Funny though, as I start to walk through the processes involved in swapping out the top, I see a whole bunch of work.. Parts that will have to be swapped:

Wiper stalk
HVAC controls
Washer tank

Hopefully all of this switches directly over and I'm mentally making a mountain out of a molehill.... :fingers_crossed:

Fishin Cricket 03-20-2012 11:10 AM

Well I can now say I have done an uninstall/reinstall on the hardtop wiring kit and switches.. Took myself and a mechanic buddy about 5 hours total! A local Jeep store has quoted the re-flash at 35 dollars, so I really think I am getting off pretty cheap!

Oh, I found this:

http://www.mopar-accessories.com/en-....ashx?id=14627

Just in case it helps someone else out later. Word to the wise, if you have never done any wiring before then make sure you are able to hire that small bit out.. Things got hairy when the wiring diagram and soldering iron came out! lol

Driving down for the reflash tomorrow, but so far everything is good!
