35's decision made, going on tomorrow!

After much deliberation I decided on the coopers on MB72s.

Tomorrow the fun begins on a helper free install of the teraflex lift kit, exhaust extension, and a manual tranny fluid change. Wish me luck- its the biggest project I've ever taken on alone. Just can't wait for the end result :D

Just pulled the trigger on some 35" Toyo Open Countrys, 17" Pro Comps, and a 4" Pro Comp lift... going on within the next week or so!

kbwwolf 03-16-2012 11:21 PM

That's how curse words were invented. :)

Kidding. Good luck. :thumb:

Which Pro Comp? I'd warn against that stage I and II kits (have them) and spend some good money on a REALLY good lift.

mattdenney07 03-17-2012 12:04 AM

got some flat black PC 7036's...

and already bought the PC kit because they didn't have the RE standard 3.5" kit that I wanted in stock at the 4wheelparts store here in Vegas

ESP 03-17-2012 12:07 AM

Are those MBs 16s? I don't see the coopers for any 15x8 or 15x10 wheels.

Casotakar1229 03-17-2012 08:24 AM

man, I guess after I get my jeep set up with new bumpers (ordered front yesterday, ordering rear in a couple months), looks like I need to lift. (almost) every time I open up a wheel/tire thread there's always a lift coming as well.

Better to do it at your own pace. It's not a contest. :)

Nice. Post up pics when done.

Jude, looking at the sidewall in one of his pics, it says 35x12.5x15. :thumb: Just looks like they are OOS at DTD. Here is a link to the manufacturer website. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing the weight of the tire listed. But I could just be blind. Lol.

Do you have the Stage I or II?

I did the Pro Comp 4" Stage-II Lift Kit with MX-6 Shocks, which essentially has good components, but you'll need to add a bunch of stuff on and replace a few if you want to have it drive like it does stock on the road after the lift is installed (as to the new DS, that is pretty much true of any 4" lift). You'll also need to get a good replacement front DS before long.

After my lift, I added the following:

J.E. Reel 1350 Front DS;
Rancho Steering Stabilizer;
Synergy Suspension Chromoly Tie Rod;
Synergy Suspension High Steer Drag Link (flipped);
Synergy Suspension Adjustable Front Track Bar (replaced less-adjustable ProComp TB);
Synergy Suspension Front Track Bar Bracket;
Synergy Suspension F911 Hardware Kit; and
Synergy Suspension Adjustable Front Lower Control Arms (replaced fixed ProComp LCAs).

I bought my lift right before Christmas and a couple days afer buying the Rubi. I also went with the 3.5 RE lift, but it was not available right then. Installer called me back later and said that I would have to wait because they were out of stock. So, I ordered the PC Stage II one. I'm happy with the PC components that I kept, but in hindsight, I wish I had just gone with a 4" Synergy lift (appx $2.3K) because I spent more than that anyway. Of course, I'd still need a new front DS and a few other things, but I would have been much closer than what I wanted.

With the stuff I added and replaced, it is a night/day different in how it rides on/off road.

ugh you'd think I could do that right? Interesting though DTD and tirerack don't carry the coopers. OP, can you put one on a scale and take a pic before you mount them?

I'm sure DTD could order them for you though. :whistling:

Since I am so kind, I did a little research. Found this old post over at jeepforum. I'm assuming that the OP of that thread received a reply from Cooper that stated the weight of the 35x12.5x15 is 67lbs. Also, 07XMan2Door just installed those tires on 15" ION wheels. He states that the wheel/tire combo weighs in at 88lbs.

And just for kicks, here is a review of the tire.

67lbs?!? j/k. That's kinda what I was thinking.

I can't tell from my phone (away from my computer now), but If the OP has a '12 and at least 3.73 gears, no problemo with the weight. I have 64.5-lb tires on mine. No problem with the 3.6L. I wish I had the Cooper STTs, and will put some on when I wear these out. The STTs are the best on/off road tire I've ever owned. They're almost literally bulletproof. Definitely worth a few extra pounds IMO.

Gottabstick 03-17-2012 11:47 PM

Well, didn't get too far today, a mixture of unpreparedness and life got in the way lol. Just managed to get the Track bar removed and exhaust spacers put on, lame I know haha. I have everything needed for tomorrow though- kinda realised early on that an impact wrench is pretty much a necessity for this operation!
ESP ; I did get these from discount tire- I have the weight as 67.5lb tire plus ~20lb for the rim. I don't have a scale right now but I will weight the spare when we get one (wifes preggo so we were going to get one to measure her progress:)).

Yeah I have a '12 with 3.73s. Glad to hear your opinions on the coopers- it was a real toss up there for a while. But like kbbwolf said , you just have to make the decision and go for it one day. Once I saw the tires in person I knew I'd made the right choice. Definately the look I was going for.
Besides the look , I see good reveiws for them everywhere.

I have aired them down to 6-psi on a heavier vehicle and tried to puncture them or to get them to come off my rims, with no such luck. They're worth a few extra pounds and tenths of a mpg IMO.

Well that lift install was (instert curse words here) brutal. I feel like I just went 3 rounds with George st Pierre. I think it was all the torquing at strange contortional angles that did it lol. Well that combined with the fact I'm 6'4 and really not the most limber for wrenching haha.
But it's on now, all torqued to spec and looking good. Drove around for 50 miles or so yesterday. The loss in power is really miniscule from what I can tell. I even hit the Interstate and was pulling upto 70 , uphill with no problems in 6th gear.
Now all I have to get is an aftermarket tire carrier and procal unit and my mods will be done:).... Oh and a really good cleaning of course

He we are halfway done

What PSI would you guys recommend running these tires at?
Thanks

ESP 03-21-2012 12:47 PM

35x12.5R15 psi should be around 28-30. Might push it a little higher for MPG but the centers are gonna wear faster and the ride quality may go down a bit. I think the max cold psi on those is 35. Put it a 30 and see what you think.

don't worry about it 4 wheel parts lifts seem to get a bad rap I've had mine for over a year and its great and I have had zero problems.

GiantSchnauzer 03-22-2012 09:45 AM

Love the half way pic! really gives a better perspective than full before & after pictures :thumb:, dammit, and I thought I finally decided to go with 33's... lol
