Jeep Newb Lift Questions

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and jeeps too. I don't actually own a jeep but my friend has a 2004 Rubicon and he's not good with computers so I'm doing all the research for his parts for him. He wants to install a 6" lift and 37" tires. I did some research and the fabtech 6" long arm kit says it can only use 35" tires. Is there another 6" kit out there to allow 37s or will he need to go 8" lift? Keep in mind my friend is building this truck pretty much for just cruising and showing off.

there are many people that run the RE 5.5" long arm lift with 37's. and you can add a 1" BL. i wouldn't run 8" of lift. LCOG is much better. you can always bumpstop it or trim some if you need to (which i doubt you will if its just for cruising or light offroading). oh, and there are much better kits than the Fabtech (RE,RK,FT,Clayton).

btw, there is a lot that needs to be done to handle that big a tire. in other words, lots of $$$

For 37's he is going to want to regear and maybe chromo shafts.:D

If I had 37's id also get a 1 ton tierod and drag link.:D Once he finds out how much money it will be he may want to go 4" with 33's and that will look good to.:D

Thanks for the quick response. I was aware that he had to re-gear, my friend has his heart set on a 6" lift so anything smaller is out of the question unless its gonna be real expensive. If fabtech is junk then which brand kits would you guys go with? no acronyms please. Most importantly whats a good site to buy this stuff from?

I'd look into the re kit. Try 4x4 groupbuy.com they have some good deals on re stuff last time I looked.:D

i'd recommend 35s or 36s unless he wants to stretch the wheelbase. Also make sure its a long arm kit if he wants to go with +4" of lift.

For me, anything bigger looks funky with the stock angle of the fender flares so you will need to cut the fenders to make it look good, also when doing that i do not know who makes wider flares.

just to give your friend an estimate $ of a proper 6" lift (long arm kit).. over 2.5k

another 1k for gears

another 1.5k for tires

how about bumpers? is he looking into that too? If he wants to run a spare then he will need a carrier to hold the spare tire as the stock one will rip apart if he puts 37s on there.

Will you also need a new longer drive shafts with that lift?

at last money for installation of that long arm kit since it needs welding and cutting of the stock brackets (unless your buddy is good at it and has the tools)
