Heat gun on fender flairs
Has anyone done this to restore the color? I did it on my rear bumperettes yesterday and it came out great but I am curious how long it lasts.

It should last a while. You are actually removing all the oxidation so I would think it would last as long as it took to oxidize the first time.

You would be better off painting them with some Krloyn Fusion satin black, because everytime I used the heat gun on the bumper cover of my Liberty I had, it would start fading again in a month or so..

Well, my plan was to Krylon or plastidip. But saw the heat gun and thought what the heck. I will paint if it does not hold up.

I saw this too and thought it looked like a good fix.. I posted on here an someone mentioned distorting the fender flares when heat was applied so that's something to keep in mind especially if you remove them to do it

My fender flairs are fine. It was just the bumperetts that were grey. I did think about melting but I live by Facets Jeep and could pick up replacements cheap if I needed to.

I also heard it makes the plastic less flexible and more brittle. I don't know how true that is.. Just heard it before.

Painting is most certainly a better way to go. I've done both and won't waste the time with a heat gun ever again.

I did mine last summer and they already look the same it doesnt hurt them to use the gun unless you get too close bubbles it a little.I am ditching them for tube fenders or I would just paint them this time.
