Thinking about a willys

I have been looking for another jeep and I am leaning toward an old willy. Right now im kind of set on a 1947 or so. I dont have any experience with them or with a vehicle that old. Ive found quite a few on craigslist that are in all different sorts of shape. Cheap ones that are rusty to fully restored ones that are way too much for me. But there are a bunch in between that seem like decent deals. What should I look for in one of these jeeps? If I buy one I plan on using it for a daily driver/mild off road

One thing to keep in mind is you can't drive a highway at all. But you can get the parts from kaiser willys. Some insurance company's wont insure something that old, I have a 58 cj3b and had to argue saying it was a military vehicle

Look for the usual cracks around the spring mounts and steering box mounts on the frame, rusted frame, and body mounts. The cahnces of finding one for a decent price that is already pretty solid is about slim to none, but the previously mentioned things should speed the rebuilding process up considerably.

The perfect build of these in my book are later model offset CJ axles, granny 4 speed (think t-18), dana 18 with an warn overdrive. Then you can run highway speeds and crawl with the best of them.

I agree with yellowsnow's opinion of a build... along with a V6... :)

Don't do an engine swap in 40s or 50s jeep the frame and body were meant to go only so fast and designed to handle very little torque
