wheels.. alloy or steel? pics please
thinking of getting wheels. but if it were up to me i would keep the stock wheels but i want them black and with a bit more back spacing..

what is good 3.75 or 4? pics would be nice..

lastly any major difference between alloy and steel in weight and balancing wise?

Smeghead 01-12-2008 10:54 PM

I love the stockers keep them and powercoat them!

richp 01-12-2008 11:02 PM

Yea, second that, otherwise go with a cheap set of steelies and rattle can them as needed. As for alloy, if you plan on offroading around rocks and such you want 'hot forged' alloys, they can be beat back into shape like a steel wheel without breaking, the normal cast or machined alloys can't, well, mostly, sometimes you get lucky and can beat them back w/o breaking them. I just did a jeep 5 hole outlaw that had a slight bend in it, I got lucky but the wheel was trashed if I could not bend it back. Like I said, I got lucky, two other times I did not. Mickey Thompson makes hot forged but they are a bit pricey.

3.75 or 4 is fine it doesnt really matter unless you get like 14.5 in winde tires, just get whatever they ahve int eh hweel you want

orange05tj 01-13-2008 12:13 AM

Hwat stock hweels doy ou ahve? I think t eh stock hweel wouldl ook sweet int eh podwercoat

Brian V 01-13-2008 12:17 AM

Black Steelies all the way! They're cheap and look good...

orange05tj 01-13-2008 12:24 AM

How about these rims?

Only problem is 1 knock off got knocked off.

Scoob 01-13-2008 12:57 AM

There is no comparison.

Alloys > Steelies

Cmoore on another forum said it best when comparing cheesy steel wheels to Alloys.

There are only 3 pro's to running black steelies.

1. Less likely to be stolen (only if they want your tires)
2. Having to beat your rim back into shape with a hammer so it will hold air really amuses your friends (ask me how I know this)
3. non-jeepers think you're hardcore when you park at the mall
An alloy will look better, balance better, take more punishment without bending, are lighter and look better.

Black Pro Comp Steelies with 3.75 back spacing

AzTJ 01-13-2008 02:43 AM

Alloy all the way. :D
Why do you think all the best beadlock wheels are made of aluminum? :D

I like my Eagle's.

nicolas-eric 01-13-2008 02:50 AM

i´ve got some wheels you don´t know in the US. they´re from a french company...

i like how these look, any balance/ vibration issues?

Walkeraviator 01-13-2008 07:15 AM

The key for my choice is funds available. I have to buy five rims and five tires for $1000. So thats $150 per tire leaving only $50 per wheel hence... steelies.

mrbigjeep 01-13-2008 12:10 PM

alloy for sure.

i've had steelies and now alloys and alloys are better by far.

way lighter and they look way better. well worth the extra coin.

iamagolfspaz 01-13-2008 12:28 PM

Hey BPOWA No problems with balance or vibration. My Good Year dealer balances them and rotates them for free at every oil change for me.

steve1 01-13-2008 09:13 PM

Oh,black jeep is great!I love it !Very cool!Nice pics!

solo97tj 01-13-2008 10:42 PM

i hade a set of black steelies on bfg's AT on 33's but spend the extra for alloy's i love my eagles

cavediverjc 01-13-2008 10:49 PM

I really like the look of the black steelies, but not enough to give up my Eagles. :punk:

MR.CLIFFORD 01-13-2008 10:57 PM

I will always advocate alloy wheels over steelies after owning a set of black steel wheels. :)

I've had a few different allow wheels as well to base my opinions.

and the set on the wifes jeep. :)

Triple88a 01-13-2008 11:16 PM

hey everybody what about chrome steelies like the procomp 88s?

MR.CLIFFORD 01-13-2008 11:19 PM

they are steel.

Alloy > Steel. ;)

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Steel > Alloy $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :p

MR.CLIFFORD 01-13-2008 11:33 PM

I try to not let that hold me back. :flipoff:

I could have had a complete set of steel beadlocks for less than the cost of 1 of my wheels. I still chose the alloy. :D

Triple88a 01-13-2008 11:41 PM

lol if that was me i'd feel my heart bleed when i scratch them lol

MR.CLIFFORD 01-13-2008 11:44 PM

The Hutchinsons were even more expensive and I scratched the piss out of those. I'd rather scratch an expensive wheel than bend a cheap one. :D

Chad P 01-14-2008 08:27 AM

I want to do this to mine:

mrbigjeep 01-14-2008 09:36 AM

those look sweet ^^

even when they aren't powdercoated those are some sharp looking wheels

Triple88a 01-14-2008 04:56 PM

I saw those on ebay however their backspacing was bad

15 x 8" / 50mm offset replica.

Chad P 01-14-2008 05:23 PM

I have these wheels now so I am go to get them powder coated then get some 1" spacers to fix the off set problem. I have 12.50 wid tires so they rub a little.

Triple88a 01-14-2008 06:02 PM
