My head hurts! :banghead:
I've been researching, running all the possible scenarios, uses, costs, etc, etc ad nauseam for my 05 LJ Rubicon. I find a tire I like and it's on backorder or, I find one that may work better but not in all cases.
Understanding the basic common sense topics of: you get what you pay for, some mud/rock tires are better on the road, do you really go in mud that deep, what's the road noise like, will they last worth a crud and finally, I know I'll never find a tire that does everything, bla, bla, bla... After 29 years of sobriety, I'm almost ready to drink over this!
I'm replacing the 35-12.5x15 BFG AT's the Jeep had when I bought it. I really don't like that tire; never have but I digress...
The Maxxis was recently unavailable so Matt, our resident W-Forum Discount Tire guy has been helping me a ton and, guided me toward the Kumho KL71. This is a great looking tire and at $240 per, is much better than $290 per for the Maxxis. I have also heard the Maxxis is very soft which leads me to believe that while great on the rocks, will wear out much faster on the street. BTW, I drive my Jeep about 50/50 street vs off. I have never heard much about Kumho as a company and have nothing to really gauge the longevity of the KL71 with.
Today I get a call from my 4-Wheel Parts guy who says he has the Maxxis arriving tomorrow.
So before I hit the tequilla, can someone give me some advice? I'm heading to Moab for the EJS in less than two weeks and really need to pull the trigger.
For your reference, here is the Kumho
And the Maxxis Trepador
Please forgive my lunacy and ignorance and, thank you in advance!
Steve
