question about springs
 
When i bought my jeep it came with a 4 inch skyjacker lift. Since buying it ive replaced rancho 9000 shocks. Id like to change out the springs next and looking at rubicon express 4.5". Would there be any issues with getting half inch higher springs?

I've read that RE springs are taller than advertised. And that would confirm the suspicions I had when I did my RE 4.5 8 years ago.....it looked a lot taller than I was expecting it to be.

yea that 4.5 will most likely sit at 5. so just gotta worry that your control arm angle gets to steep could cause vibes and other issuse. might wana go with the 3.5 which will sit at 4.

Dust know they actually sit taller. I wanna get new adjustable control arms too, sounds like I should get those first

Ok so looking around i think ive settled on a setup. Here is what i wanna get:

currie johhny joint 8 control arm kit
currie heavy duty tie rod and drag link system
an adjustable trac bar
rubicon express 4.5" lift springs (would like the extra height for more clearance for 35's
advanced adapters sye kit
tom woods cv drive shaft
already have brown dog 1" mml waiting for install

does anyone see any issue with this setup or recommend something else?

I'm in the process of replacing my RE springs due to sagging. Purchased a set of 4.5" BDS springs as replacements. You might want to take a look at BDS instead.

how long were yours on and how much did it sag?

I can't speak for Big Cole but even though my RE 4.5's did sag I don't think they've sagged a lot and mine have been on for about 8 years. I can snap a photo if you'd like. I just dropped from 37's back down to 35's a few days ago.

you make the mistake of thinking tire size is somehow related to lift height. It's not.

Lots of folks run 35s on 4" of lift. Some even run them on 2" of lift.

Add a 1.25" BL & MML, set your bumpstops properly, and you'll be fine with 4" of lift.

In my case I got my front ones lower then the back ones I guess they r saggi.in the front but I haven't decide where to go n upgrade to a lift kit or just get me some spring adapters for just the front what u guys think! Oh n my is all stock shocks front n rear, but I find it hard to believe that is a 05 and have the front shocks so saggy!

How would it not be related to lift height? I wouldnt wanna run 35's on a 2" lift unless i had lcg lift and tube flares front and back. Also i have a 1' body lift already and would rather get rid of it then increase to 1.25". I want the extra 1" high springs to give a little more flex room. As it is the tire hits my fender before my springs and shocks are completley compressed

This thread is interesting. I actually have a 4 inch lift and just replaced blown shocks with rancho 9000's also. The difference is I want to lower it a bit in order not to have to spend cash on SYE and new shaft. Also my gearing is only 3.73 and the 33's are almost too small for the lift as is. So instead of replacing tires with 35's, replacing gears, and installing SYE and shaft for vibes I am getting I thought maybe I could go down to a 2.5 inch lift with maybe a 1.25 bl to help clear tires. Shocks are rated by rancho for 2.5-4 inch lift so was wondering if I would only have to replace springs or are control arms and such needing to be changed to go down 1.5 inches?

Because what tires you can fit is a function of the distance from the hub center to the sheet metal at full bump & full flex....which has nothing to do with lift height. In fact, you check these clearances with the springs removed.

what's a "LCG lift"? how does that differ from any other lift? what are tube flares, what do they have to do with anything?

a 1"-1.25" BL is one the best things you can have on your jeep, I have no idea why you would contemplate getting rid of it.

springs have less to do with flex than shock travel does.

The flare or the steel of the fender? Flare is plastic, it moves, thats the point. The steel is a different story. If you're rubbing the steel, you need to adjust your bumpstops.
