First Jeep, First Mods to come
I've been lurking for a few months now but it was time to become a member. I just wrapped up the paperwork on my first jeep, a 09 JKUR! I plan to pick it up Friday (4 hours away) and am looking to jump right in to modding it.
It is absolutely pristine and was a leased daily driver.. the only problem is the leasing company put a brand new set of sissy tires on it.
In the next few weeks I plan to add a 3" Teraflex lift, and new wheels and tires. Right now I'm looking at 17" Pro Comp 3036 machined alloy wheels and 35" Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar (if I can find any around here).
My question is.... everything suggests 4.50 backspacing. The wheels come in 4.75 and 5", but I was looking at adding 1.5" Spidertrax spacers. I thought I remember reading somewhere on the forums that spacers = roughly the same amount in backspacing. So that would mean my backspacing would be 3.25 or 3.5 (depending on which wheel I chose)? Is 3.25 putting too much stress on everything even with high quality spacers?
Also, I plan to attempt to install the lift myself, both to learn everything I can about my jeep and because I would rather spend the money on new tools than taking it to a shop. However I may take it in afterward to check alignment. Are there any good comprehensive guides or videos for a 3" teraflex install?
One crucial thing: don't tighten up track bars/ control arms to proper torque till you have the Jeep sitting on it's own weight on the ground, or you risk putting binding on the bushings, which is a recipe for Death Wobble.
Make sure you read this both of these threads, or you may one day require the services of a tow truck:

but, welcome to WF and congrats on the jeep! :thumb:
