New Lift
I just installed a 2.5 lift from RC. Just the lift kit. I have a deceleration vibration around 30 mph. And then a big vibration both ways around 45 mph. I disconnected the sways on front and rear. I like the ride but what else do I need to do to cut down on the vibrations? Lower the transfer case? Thanks in advance for any help.

just went thru this-- install transfer drop. I made mine from 1x2 tubing
so I dropped 1 inch. took care of most the problem I think I still need to replace u-joints because the change of angle.

JCs94YJ 03-20-2012 09:09 PM

So dropping it an inch would be a start. I replaced the rear driveshaft u joints as I was doing this. Did you have to replace the hardware in the transfer case bolts?

yjJEEPyj 03-20-2012 09:26 PM

I think You will need New hardware.. You bought the 2.5" lift? The 4" Is the same price And included transfer drop bracket and hardware ;). It's all personal preference i guess

yes you will need new bolts for crossmember that are a inch longer than original. they should be a taper head bolt. I got standard hex head bolts with a lock washer and a heavy flat washer. put flat washer on the bolt first then the lock washer. the lock washer should fit into taper on crossmember to act as taper for the bolt. or you can order drop kit

thats where I would start

Would dropping it 2 inches cause more problems? I can find plenty of 2 by 2 steel but the 1 by 2 is proving to be a hard find.

The further you drop it the less clearance you have.. and the more you drop it the more of a angle your engine will be at

JCs94YJ 03-27-2012 12:44 PM

Not really interested in off roading so the clearance thing wouldn't be an issue. Just wondering if it would harm the other angle of things.

schnutzy 03-27-2012 02:21 PM

at 2.5 inches, you may not need that much drop. you can try stacking washers till the vibs stop.

gohounds 03-27-2012 05:28 PM

I don't think I would go 2in I would try washer method or I originally was looking for aluminum round stock for mine but found the 1x2 so used that
all you need is something to space crossmember down then bolts need to be that same amount longer

busemans 03-27-2012 06:28 PM

i always read that you don;t need to do a tcase drop at 2.5" of lift.

i hope mine doesn;t get vibes. i just order a 2.5 from rocky road outfitters with the ome hd springs

Zaedock 03-27-2012 06:34 PM

Should have went with a body lift if you're going to drop the 'case more than 1".

gohounds 03-27-2012 07:34 PM

busemans, I originally thought that the 2.5 lift was basic so thats what I wanted no other hassle. I installed rc and ended up doing brake line extensions and transfer drop good luck!

gohounds 03-27-2012 07:38 PM

Zaedock, I looked at body lift for tire clearance but the real problem was hitting bump stops all the time so springs needed to be replaced

YJ325i 03-27-2012 11:56 PM

this is great info, I was thinking of getting same 2.5" from RC. I have the 4 cyl, just got some 31's. I removed the flares for now, so no rub issues, but would like some susp. lift, for some rocks. plz keep updates on vibro probs. pix too :)

Zaedock 03-28-2012 09:09 AM

Check (I would install new) U-joints, etc. Any extra angularity from stock will exasperate worn joints, although some YJ's came from the factory with vibes.

One more thing: IMO, washers suck to space out a tranny pan. Do it right and drill out a piece of bar stock, etc. Your mount will be stronger.

JCs94YJ 03-28-2012 10:09 AM

I have the 1 x 2 square tubing. I marked them and wire brushed and painted them last night and will try to install tonight. I would also like to state that I did the extended brake lines also just because it was too close for comfort on the stock lines. I stated earlier, I like the lift and the ride that comes with it. I was wavering between the RE and the RC 2.5 lift. RE was back ordered til the end of April and I didn't want to wait that long. Interesting that the RE lift kit included brake lines and the transfer case lowering kit and the discos. Will try to post pics. It says that I don't have enough posts to do it.

I just got back from the test drive and it was great. No more vibrations.

busemans 03-28-2012 11:13 PM

man, i wonder if i should have went with the bds or re 2" springs instead. i hear these might end up lifting me 3+ inches and i don;t want that much lift.

busemans 03-28-2012 11:13 PM

glad your lift came out alright too. hopefully mine goes good

Compared to the stock springs that I took off. My 2.5 kit raised it around 3 inches.

gohounds 03-29-2012 07:26 PM

replaced u-joints and went for a short drive no vibes when it warms up again I will get it out on the highway for a speed test. I refuse to put top back on till fall and it was snowing this morning.
