i hate this stupid thing

my stupid jeep was dead this morning when I went out to start it after a heavy rain/hail last night.... threw my tow bar on and brought it to my friends shop...he calls me a couple hours later to tell me the throttle position sensor was bad and some how shorted my computer. so now im stuck replacing the computer ($900 from dealer, $300 from junk yard in Kansas with some retard that doesent know what UPS is) and the throttle position sensor and the company that they sent my old computer out to be tested....this sucks i just ordered my new new tire carrier and other stuff the night before so im broke again:crash: I HATE THIS JEEP

dwdrums801 01-14-2008 05:43 PM

sorry for the venting!

Rawkon 01-14-2008 06:18 PM

sounds kinda impossible to me. how good of a friend is this? sound like a loose wire, ground, or dead battery, or starter solenoid. having the comp short out and not even being turned on just doesnt sound right. a TPS going out and the motor would still start.

either that or they shorted out the computer trying to test it

dwdrums801 01-14-2008 06:37 PM

well he said that the computer works only untill it turns over and starts then dies once its running

4bangertj 01-14-2008 06:54 PM

sounds like the same symptoms as a theft detterent system gone bad. do you have a chipped key? if it were a bad computer the engine wouldnt even start i dont think

4.0l sahara 01-14-2008 06:59 PM

Thats odd never heard or thought a tps could do that. You would think if there was a problem with the tps you would get a code tps voltage to high or low. Do you know any body else with a similar jeep that would let you try there computer.

4.0l sahara 01-14-2008 07:01 PM

Ya I really dought a tps could do that all a tps is is a varible resistor. That varies resistance to tell the computer were the throttle is so even if somthing whent wrong and it had no resistance it would be the same wide open or throttle closed I don't know which it is.

x2

did you hear the starters sound but the engine didnīt turn on (my old 99 TJ did this when the chiiped key was bad)?
or did you only hear a clicking noise when you turn the key (a friends 05 TJ did that when the chipped key was bad)?

:wavey:

i work for a dealership and sometimes when the batteries die on the vehicles on the lot, the computer in a way erases itself. when ya start it you kinda have to feather the gas for the first couple minutes so the computer can "re learn" the idle curve.

dwdrums801 01-14-2008 07:21 PM

no chipped key...i got the old school key

4.0l sahara 01-14-2008 07:30 PM

I smell bull I wouldn't just buy a computer right away look into it more.

dwdrums801 01-14-2008 08:21 PM

well i know for sure the computer has to be replaced because I brought it over to this specialist and he tested it on his computer and it doesent seem to be able to hold memory? idk if I replace the computer and it works fine tomarrow then its worth it ...this is my DD and commuting to college and haveing a delivery job really sucks ....atleast im not paying for labor

nicolas-eric 01-14-2008 08:24 PM

sorry for OT.

dwdrums801 01-15-2008 10:24 AM

Im quiting as soon as my new job starts :D

If I order a band new Computer from jeepsareus.com is there anything I have to do to it besides install it ...like get it programed from jeep or anything? or should it just be plug and play?

1BLKJP 01-15-2008 03:57 PM

So did the other guy just hook it up to his machine and test it or did he try to flash it himself? I'm leaning with the others on the fact that it probably isn't dead it's just lost all of its memory. Happened to mine once and I had to keep it over 4k just to keep it started and then had to flog it near the rev limiter for about 3 miles up and down the road just to get it to relearn all of it's settings.

However if you do need to replace it's just plug and play. Just hook the harness back up the way they unplugged it.

4.0l sahara 01-15-2008 04:42 PM

You could always get the dealer to reflash it that would probally fix your probs.;)

dwdrums801 01-15-2008 09:07 PM

I went to the service center and talked to them today, I told them my problem and asked how much they would charge to get my computer fixed....they wanted atleast $800 to program it and everything and I would have to get my jeep over there and they would have to do all the work to remove it and install it ....so its cheaper for me to just get a new one.....If my mechanic didnt order the used one from the junkyard yet im gunna call jeepsareus and have them overnight it to me...they only wanted $300 for it brand new

4.0l sahara 01-16-2008 02:41 PM

Do the brand new ones come pre flasshed or are they blank? I would think they come pre flashed.

JeepCommandoja 01-16-2008 03:08 PM

i really dont see why you would have to get a new computer if your tps went out. one of the first things i had to replace on my jeep was the throttle position sensor after i went threw some water that splashed on it. its a wham bam job. the way i could i needed a new one is for some reason at 1850 rpms and 3400 there would be a slight hiccup for and then it would continue reving.

be nice to andy and dirk...

lol jk :flipoff:

i know how it feels to be young and to drop all your money into your jeep.. then watch it go downhill from there.. my tranny ended up only costing me 900 and some..

dwdrums801 01-18-2008 02:27 PM

alright well the junk yard guy fell through and jeepsareus.com doesent know how to call somone back and told me diff. stories ("yess it comes flashed" "no you will have to have the dealer flash i for you") So i threw on my trusty little tow bar and dropped it off at the dealership....this is the 1st time I ever brought it to a dealer and they figured it out in about an hour...they said my pcm had an internal paroblem and there was no real deff. reason for it going out....so now im waiting for them to get a new pcm in stock 3-5 days and $1250 later....

atleast i got a cherokee to drive around now:punk:
