2006 wrangler x on 31's gas mileage

Just bought new AT tires for the jeep. They run great. Checked my mileage and I'm getting right under 13 mpg. I believe everything else is stock. Is this typical? I don't expect great mileage but was hoping I'd be a least getting 15....

I got 15 with mine after I did the spark plugs.

TJ-Mike 03-20-2012 10:30 PM

I also have an 06 6 speed with 31's and I get 12-13 as well.

SurfKaster 03-20-2012 10:44 PM

What type of spark plugs u used?

nmtj 03-20-2012 11:22 PM

04 X on 30's, I can usually get 18mpg

Sottyman 03-21-2012 01:33 AM

Mine's a little older (1999), 31" SilentArmors at 26-28 psi, 3.73 gears, and I'm getting 17-18 driving around town.

What MPG did you get before the new tires?

hoopdogg 03-21-2012 09:14 AM

10-11 on mud tires, same size. is there anything i can do to improve it a little? I bought it used, and love it, but am wondering why everyone else is getting better...?

Xjman1 03-21-2012 10:22 AM

My 01 with a 3speed averages about 14. We did an overall trip average of 18 on our recent trip to Co. I think I could have done better if not for those spirited runs.

mraybrake 03-21-2012 10:31 AM

'06 X 6 speed. Usually get between 16 and 18, but just got 20 on the highway heading down to NC this past weekend. Everything's stock except for my 31" Fierce Attitude M/T tires and Granite Alloy Wheels.
What colors yours? Mines silver. Don't ya know silver ones get the best mileage ;)

coolbreeze 03-21-2012 10:49 AM

I quit checking the mileage some time ago, but anything over 12 is good :thumb:

DYINGsucks 03-21-2012 11:35 AM

I get about 16 with my '04

Here is what I get, hwy right at 60mph 17~19mpg, shifting easy right at 2000 rpm. If I shift above 2000rpm the mileage drops like crazy. City goes down to 15~17mpg. If I tow something (usually a dirt bike) gets 13~15mpg.
06 4.0L with six speed and 31's.

MrHix 03-21-2012 01:02 PM

98 Tj 2.5 on 33's muds. 14mpg's if its not to windy.

Dunno, but it's what I get. I try to stay under 65

Officer Gonzalez 03-21-2012 03:04 PM

31s on my 06 rubi I did the computer reset thing listed on the quadratec website and WOW way way way better MPGs crisp acceleration and my check engine light is on with a 02 sensor fault due to a giant hole in my muffler I fill up with 89 octane and get 220+ miles on a tank (all city driving) but get 150-170 miles on 87 octane my jeep likes the good stuff Lol

Is this a 6spd or auto? Wondering what computer reset ur talking about.

Officer Gonzalez 03-21-2012 04:17 PM

It's an auto... I removed the + batt cable n touched the - batt terminal for 30 sec, turned on the ignition, turn on my headlights, turn off headlights, close ignition, connect + batt cable and your done.

DaisyCutter 03-21-2012 08:18 PM

260 miles, 12.8 gallons to fill up this morning. I averaged just over 20 mpg. That included 20 miles in a sand wash. The 4-banger has it's perks.

aaron 06tj 03-21-2012 08:37 PM

i also have an 06 x 4.0L with a 6 speed and 31's i get on average 16mpg and i have an intake and exhaust

I used the autolites (iridium) they won't burn hotter,or anything they just last a long time. Most people recommend the NKG.
