Re gearing my yj wrangler

i own 92 yj with 35 inch mickey thompsons and no lift.. the performace is really poor because it still has stock gear ration. so i need help/ instructions and what to buy and what do i have to replace in order to change gear ratio.:wavey:

deepak 03-21-2012 04:25 PM

i don't go offroading that much.. i just love my yj and use it cruze around town..

DirtyRob 03-21-2012 09:12 PM

You need to buy new ring and pinion gears, and depending on what you have now, maybe a new carrier. Thsi goes for the front and rear. A master install kit (new seals and bearings) would be a good idea while you are in there too.

I am still trying to figure out how you got 35's on your YJ with no lift.

Master4th 03-21-2012 10:12 PM

He either has a lift and don't know it, or he cut the fender wells out. I had 31s and rubbed.

deepak 03-22-2012 02:14 AM

no i have renigade kit install trust me no lift at all,, they fit perfectly fine and they don't rub.. ill post a picutre.

deepak 03-22-2012 02:16 AM

and the jeep still has the orginal fenders.. i didn't trim them at all

Nubby55 03-22-2012 11:55 PM

Lol

Xpress 03-23-2012 12:45 AM

Pictures now, because there's no way you're fitting 35's on a stock Jeep with no lift.

Also you didn't mention what engine you have.

Dutch 95 03-23-2012 12:46 AM

LOL..........beat me to that one Xpress. I agree.......got pics?

2xs 03-23-2012 12:48 AM

Nubby55 03-23-2012 12:53 AM

Dutch 95 03-23-2012 12:58 AM

Hello sunshine :wavey:

Everyone this guy is very bright and I say this cause in the above statement he/she says that he has "no lift".. Well in his jeep profile he lists that he has a 2in lift.. So OP explain yourself

This is the pic of his jeep in his Jeep profile

I have 35's with 5in lift still had to cut fenders and use tj flares to make them fit but as far as gears I have 4.88:1 in mine and like them a lot it is low for freeway driving though if that's what u are going to do

Fishnhuntforever 03-25-2012 01:32 AM

I have 35's with a 4" Rc spring lift and 1" shackle lift and I still rub when the suspension is articulated....... Hmmmmm.... you mustr have metal cloak fenders or cut the fenders and hood and did some fab work.

Fishnhuntforever 03-25-2012 01:33 AM

Ooops I meant to add 4.88 gears for 35's to get back to factory specs,

deepak 03-26-2012 06:21 PM

There might not be a suspension lift, but it may have a body lift. Looks too high to be stock. Take a pic of your body mounts and post that too. There MUST be some sort of lift.

jfbilbro 03-26-2012 10:00 PM

35's and no lift??.....SHENANIGANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!I got a 91 Rendgade and it WON'T work....period...

DirtyRob 03-27-2012 01:12 PM

If your springs have any upward arch then it has a lift. you probably have 4-6"of lift or may be combined with a body lift. if you don't know what you are looking at you will not just "see" a lift. the jeep looks good either way

2xs 03-28-2012 01:13 AM
