New Bumpers...Old Jeep...Is it worth it?

Here's a question....I have a 93 YJ which I have been pouring money into to make it what I want. I have decided (because of your feedback on here) to get a new back bumper with the swing arm for the spare. Now I'm thinking "Gee...gonna look a little strange with a nice new bumper in the back and an old bumper in the front" So should I go ahead and change the front bumper also? So much money for such an old jeep. Is it really worth it? Will new bumpers looks strange on such an old jeep? I'm looking at the Smittybilt bumpers (not the cheap ones). Your comments please.

Just paint the front one it'll look new!

What is the main rhing you do with jeep?
If its a mall crawler, get an expensive ( chrome is best) tube bumper with oversized stinger :)
If its a daily driver that you also wheel, get ( or build) a trail worthy bumper with winch and and appropriately sized stinger like I have.
And if its daily driver and country roads are adventerous, stock or moderately priced is way to go,
But get what YOU WANT not what you think others want ya to have ;)

Bumpers are for old and new. When you hit a deer, tree, rock, or car and get out and nothings hurt you will appreciate the purchase ten-fold.

BUy what you need. If you need both bumpers then get 'em, if you only need the rear, paint the front to match, or just leave them alone and go get the Jeep dirty and leave it that way. Works for me :D

jasonh28 03-24-2012 12:22 AM

300!? What brands man I wanna look them up the cheapest spare tire carrier and rear bumper I found was 280

yjJEEPyj 03-24-2012 12:30 AM

That seams.. Really cheap! but if it work.. Then go with it! i have the same Tire carrier/rear bumper combo from smitty and I think it was 350-450??

olbaid_83 03-24-2012 12:36 AM

i got them from ebay, far as i know they are generic. never saw a brand on either. the other part of it is i spent about 400 total and got about 100 back for the front not bolting straight up to the frame(i had to drill holes) and the rear had a few boo boos in the finish (nothing major at all) so both vendors gave me money back on em. i think the vendors were trunk_and_winch and e-auto grilles

yjJEEPyj 03-24-2012 12:46 AM

Ah i see. Let us know how they hold up. Go ram some trees! ;)

Great advice and great pics. You guys are going to scream when I tell you how much I'm paying for the smittybilt bumper/swing arm. 650. I could go for the cheaper one but I like being able to adjust the height of the tire for rear visibility. Ratings are high on all websites for the bumper/swing arm. So...I won't touch the front bumper. It will remain the same for now. Will take pics after it's done and post.

I left my front bumper for the time being, and just modified it to work for now. I weld as a 2nd job here at my house and can built about what I want to, but the stock bumper is fairly stout, and after welding some recovery points to it, it does just fine. Just trying to add any advice I can
