To order or not to order? I am not insanely picky, but order = better value?
 
so i have been working with a great sales rep at a jeep dealership about 30 mins away. the local dealers are miserable, pushy, rude, and just extremely annoying.

anyway, he has no problem placing an order for me but on monday he will be looking around to find as close to what i want as possible and bring it in. but i am torn on whether that is necessary or not. would it be wise to tell him exactly what i want and if he finds one close that has all i want and more tell him i am not willing to pay for the extras?

what i want:
non-negotiables:
2012 JKU rubicon
6 speed
color: winter chill (highly doubt it), white, silver ... in that order

preferences:
heated seats
nav

so if he fires back and finds a (hypothetically) a 2012 jku rubi/white/heated seats/nav/matching fenders/matching hard top ... all that sounds great! but if its $2000 more i don't really want to pay for that. has anyone ever had dealer go low enough to erase that extra?

i dunno, i may just order and play waiting game but man would that be miserable ... as many of you know. overall though, i am not that picky as long as price is right.

I say order it exactly how you want it. there is a zero risk there and you just have to have more patience.

where in VA are you near? NoVA/DC area?

I was in the same boat but I did NOT want the Nav or connectivity stuff. If the dealer would give it to me for the price without that stuff I would have gone with one on the lot..
But they normally wont do that, and every Jeep sent to the dealers come with Nav and the whole connectivity group stuff, so ordering was the only way to go for us.

Id say give him a day to look (you never know he could find `the one`) but if not then go ahead and order..

Unless you are in the middle of nowhere there should be so many choices to choose from, I don't see why anyone would need to order one.

There are probably 100-200 Unlimited Rubicons within 30-50 miles of me

So if I go on cars.com and do a search, there are only 18 jku/rubicons/manuals/2012 within 250miles of me (500 miles yields 39). Not sure how accurate that is, but you get the idea. They are rare around here!

I guess I will wait and see what he can find. Hopefully won't have to order.

Mine shows 70 within 50 miles, but I don't think all dealers report to that service either

your right, not all dealers do and it can be inaccurate.

probably bigger market in colorado.

but in all my driving around town and in the surrounding area, i have only seen 2 JKU rubis

not sure whats wrong with this town. seen an ok amount of jeeps, but JKU not so much and rubis WAY less. i won't have many to wave at :nonono:

My Dealer had an AEV customized Rubi out front yesterday, and a COD-MW3. Both were hot! Sorry, no photos, if they are still there next time I'll take pics.

Normally it wouldn't/shouldn't matter if you order or if you take something out of stock/dealer trade. This is the end of the quarter and the reason the dealer is pushing finding one is the dealer kickback, or as we call it the quarterly wrap. If the dealer sells the quota given by Chrysler for the quarter there is $800 back per vehicle.

I'd let the dealer see what they can find and use this info to negotiate not paying for the extras. Quarter closes 04/02 so your dealer might be inclined to take a short deal knowing they can make it up if they hit the objective. That's why we are offering EP price on all new vehicles excluding SRTs and Call of Duty Rubicons. Take the loss upfront and hope to hit the objective, that's most dealers thinking right now.

I think your best deal will be something they can find. Even though you might not want some of the options if you don't have to pay for them it might be worth it.

#1 reason to order is to reduce the number of "Hey, watch what I can do with this thing!" moments the dealership staff have before you take delivery. I'd stand there as it came off the truck.

Maybe I'm a minority, but I become a nervous nellie just taking a sold order or any sold vehicle down the street to get gas. Too afraid I might get hit or something will happen.

I assume dealers have policies in place to protect their stock, I'm just paranoid.

On the other hand, you actually put some gas in a sold vehicle, which puts you in the top 5% of Jeep dealerships.

We barely made it to the gas station down the road after handing over a check for $38,000 for the Rubicon, and $43,000 for the GC a few months before that.

IMO if your not in a hurry to get it and can wait a month or so and get what you want. I mean who wants to spend 30K on a vehicle and settling for less or more than you want/need!

That's ridiculous. We give a full tank with every new vehicle and half tank with used.

I would normally agree, but since Chrysler is trying to show these huge sales gains this quarter I'd take advantage of that and use it to negotiate either a better deal or a bunch of free options that the OP might not have wanted to pay for.

Just like the end of the year, the end of any quarter is a great time to purchase. Dealers want to hit the quarterly wrap especially if they missed the quota in 1 of the 3 months. As an example:

Dealer has a January quota of 80, Feb quota of 100 and a March quota of 150. Total is 330. Lets say the actual sales were Jan 60, Feb 85. If the dealer sells 185 in March the dealer still gets the kickback for all 3 months(quarterly wrap). The OP is in a great spot to negotiate as the quarter is almost over.


Just my 2 cents as a jeep salesperson sitting on this side of the desk and can give a little insight to why the dealer is pushing a dealer trade. As a salesperson I'd do the same thing. I'd try to find the vehicle, but at the same time I would have already ordered what the customer wanted.

I ordered for the half doors alone.
I had found a dark green on the lot which I really like, but it had full sized doors.
Took me about 10 minutes to decide that it was worth the wait to get it all to my liking -- to include Gecko Pearl.

The really big downside -- sucks to have to wait for delivery.

and since its a manual, A LOT LESS people test drive em and do stupid stuff!

I might recommend test driving both the stick and auto 2012 if you havn't already. I know when I shopped for my jeep, I refused to even test drive an auto. Now, 6 months or so into owning my jeep, I wish I had given the automatic a shot. Seems easier to wheel with, and much easier to drive around with the doors off and your foot hanging out the side!

If you don't want the matching fenders and hardtop, don't settle for them. I also ate the cost of buying a jeep on the lot that came with the chrome package. I didn't think it would bother me too much, but my wife hates it, and at this point we've replaced or painted every piece (save for the grill)

Yes, I should hope so and we got a full tank with used, not to mention other niceties from our Dealer. Then again, we probably grossly overpaid for it to begin with.... :banghead:

so i test drove JKU sahara auto and my fiance's twin has 2012 jk sport 6 speed.

i don't have a problem with the auto except i love driving manual (most of my cars up until most recent have been). i live in an area where traffic is not excessive and my daily commute is rather short.

the jk 6 speed felt great and A LOT easier to drive than the older jeeps (i think my friends was like 2004)

i will admit that wheelin is tougher in a manual but that makes it fun for me at least.
