How many miles will a 2.5 4 cylinder last?
I have a 1995 YJ with the 2.5 4cyl and the 5 speed. It currently has 209,500 on it and it runs great. I know that if you take good care of it the engine will run for a long time, but I just want a "general" answer.

-how many miles on your wrangler?

Taking care of your vehicle really makes the difference. I know a guy with a duelly ford that has 350,000 miles on it.

tyler1234567 03-26-2012 12:04 AM

didnt you know? in a jeep wrangler its a good thing that your 4 banger dies! It means you get to upgrade finally!

Nubby55 03-26-2012 12:21 AM

It's in how you take care of it and how you run it, I'm the 3rd owner of a 90 YJ 4.2 got it from an old Uncle of the Ol-Lady and he said was good, but his Kids did drive it some, lone-a-car, somebody ran it HOT, it blew oil out dip stick at 60mph, now it blew a head gasket, it's how you take care of it, 123,000miles.

My old Dodge 2004 HD 2500 has 286,000+ and running Great, but I take good care of it.

My Ol-Lady's 51 an fine, may be something to it!

SandyMushYJ 03-26-2012 12:27 AM

Original 2.5 lasted 111,000 miles, maintenance habits unknown. I put a crate motor in for my buddy, then got the Jeep from him 30,000 miles later.

Let me ask you this?

How long is a rope? You cannot measure it with a tape measure.

You can speculate all you want about how long it is, and people can comment on its length, its strength, durability, and so on and so forth, but there's just simply no way to tell for sure. You can never guestimate the life of an engine accurately enough to tell for sure. How long will it last?

Well, keep it tuned up, do routine maintenance and you tell us.
