Top on & off

Hello fellow Jeepers.

Now that spring weather is upon most of us, I wanted to start a thread about how long it takes to take your soft-top off and on?

Not sure how model years differ in the speedyness of soft-top removal, so please answer accordingly.

1. What year wrangler you have
2. Hard or soft doors
3. Factory or aftermarket top
4. How long to take your top off
5. How long it takes to put back on

98, hard doors, Factory, 2-3 minutes to come off, 3-5 minutes to go back up depending on if the zippers for the side windows are playing nice.

If I'm taking the doors off, I add about 5 minutes providing I already have the correct socket to switch my mirrors over and for adjustment. and about 3 minutes when putting them back on.

1. 97
2. Hard half doors
3. Aftermarket (Supertop, non-NX model)
4. 10 minutes, tops. I don't take it completely off and I take the time to fold it back neatly.
5. About the same.

2003
Hard doors
Factory
about 5-10, depending on how much of a hurry I'm in.
about the same.

I've also got the window roll. If I use that it takes a bit more. 99% it's just me in the Jeep so if I do it after work I just lay the windows on each other then fold them between the front and rear seats.

2000
hard doors
Rampage frameless
about 7 min each way including removing/replacing the doors

Of course "taking the top off" with the rampage frameless is really just removing the rear windows and storing them under the safari top. I like this better anyways since I dont like being in the direct Florida sunlight more than I already have to, seeing as how I work outside on the water anyways lol.

1. 1999
2. Doors - Both, but run my soft during the summer
3. Bestop (model # ???)
4. top & doors off - 5 to 10 minutes, but I too fold it up neatly
5. top & doors on - 10 to 15 minutes with zipping in all the side windows

I know, I'm slow :surrender:

Gonna agree with bcpaddler - I'm slow - but ........

1.) 1997 TJ - softtop (bestop replacement)
2.) 1/2 doors with slider windows
3.) Top and doors off (realistically) 10 - 12 - 15 min (that's taking the top comletely off with quick disconnects - not just folded down)
4.) Top and doors on (repete step 3 backwards)

Don't put a stop watch on me:whistling:

techflork 03-26-2012 06:28 PM

1). 2004 TJ
2). full doors
3). Factory never replaced
4). like 5 minutes to take it off on a warm day
5). 10 to 20 minutes to put back up depending on my luck. I'm usually doing it alone.

I would just like to say that my back window has now decided it will no longer engage the zippers. I currently have the whole right side open and the more i unzip the worse it gets because the zippers simply refuse to engage. Do I wash the zippers and lube them up? Replacing the window seems useless if the top zippers are crap too. I'd prefer to keep the top for now but I won't take the top down till the back window is fixed :( anyone else have this problem? Just a side question, pm me if you don't wanna take the thread off topic. thanks!

1. 2001
2. Hard full doors
3. Factory top
4 and 5. Probably 5-10 minutes on or off. Depending on whether the zippers want to cooperate and if my fingers haven't frozen trying to get them to cooperate on a cold day.

jskinn27 03-26-2012 08:34 PM

1.97
2. hard
3. besttop
4. ~10 mins completely off. 15 mins putting the bikini/taneo cover on
5. around 15 mins alone.

Stock top
Hard doors

I call it the five minute top drop, me and my roomates have it to a tee.

zachc113 03-26-2012 08:51 PM

just got mine only taken top off twice.
hard doors stock top

first time 20 minutes to go down 10 back up. (while reading instructions)
2nd time off in about 7 minutes back on in about 10.

felt like i was pretty quick to have done it neatly

Blueliner 03-26-2012 09:06 PM

maybe Im just crazy but I cant believe its taking people 10 plus minutes to take the top down. I dont care how neatly you fold the back or roll the rear window up.

I've never timed it, I'm just guessing. The 10 minutes usually includes going back in the house for the keys to the Blazer so I can put my windows in the back
