Really depends on the area, I would say 33K if the MSRP is 35.4

with the information from pat here on the forum, i feel like he can do better than 1% below invoice. not sure how to leverage my position, other than to play waiting game.

I started with a bid from pat, at 2% below invoice. I the. Took that to a dealer and got a quote, the. Tool that quote to another dealer and started a bid war between the two local dealers till one cried mercy and wouldn't come down any more. Then I simply went with the lowest bid! Took me about two weeks, but saved me a few thousand after tread lightly!

The whole point of the Chrysler Affiliate Rewards - Tread Lightly deal is that you don't have to haggle. The low, 1% under invoice, price is guaranteed by Chrysler!

The dealer must show you the actual factory invoice, and it will list the "FFP" (Friends and Family = Affiliates) price for the vehicle. And the dealer can't add anything except limited DOC fee and state TTL fees. Period. Guaranteed.

Just relax and enjoy knowing your paying a fair price for a change. And the dealer gets a fair profit, subsidized to the tune of 2% of invoice by Chrysler.

If you don't mind waiting 6-9 weeks, you can save yourself about $2k ordering the same Jeep from the factory. Zero negotiating.

how is that possible? with the pricing in the wrangler info thread and my tread lightly discount its the same. that sticker price is not invoice price.

oh btw, what finance rates has everyone been getting lately if you bought in the last few months?

lol depends if you are financing with them, getting your own financing, or paying with cash...if you walk in and name a price with a cash offer I bet they'll be a lot more willing to work with YOUR price. if you're financing with them, it's harder to negotiate.

My bank quoted me 3.70%, the dealer was able to get 2.5% for 48 months. I was treated very fairly, the only drawback was the sales crew trying to push their current stock on me. They found exactly what I wanted less than 1k mi. from here, although it had 2 options I didn't want I can live with them - and they worked with me on the price of those options.

We were almost to the point of ordering one, then they magically found one.

My MSRP was $34,820 including destination, my FWP was $32,649 including destination.

Dealer added their $500 vig to get me to $33,049, then Registration/Title/DEQ/Filing fees got me to $33,497 out the door..

Nope. Walk in with the credit to swing 0.0% and they'll act as though you have a briefcase full of cash.

I paid 4% below invoice and qualified for 0%/36 months. In the end, though I took 1.7% for 72 months to keep the payment low in the unfortunate case that I lost my job or something, I'd still be able to make the payment (there were rumors swirling around of lay offs when I bought 2 months ago). I will, however, pay it off well before 72 months.

With all the rewards programs available, you can walk in and get 1-2% below invoice. But, you can definitely do better if you're willing to play a bit and find the right dealer.

yeah i plan to have it paid off in 3 years. keeping overhead low is crucial.

i think its just cold feet before the final moment of buying. i have never owned a new vehicle before (all my other vehicles were worth less that $3000 with tons of miles) so its scary i guess.

Agreed, it is kinda scary. It's a major purchase and you should put a lot of thought into it, which it looks like you're doing. FWIW, it's much less scary after you make the purchase.

My experience:

1. I had one dealer who embraced the Tread Lightly discount, told me it made his world easier and his whole attitude improved when I mentioned it.
2. Next dealer didn't know what I was even talking about and refused to deal with me via email.
3. Next dealer laughed when I said the words "Tread Lightly" as if I was making a joke. Then said quickly, "Oh you were serious..."

I think once you have the TL discount in place, it's supposed to be like Chrysler family and friends and will not drop much more than that. That will all change though if it's something on the lot that they're desperate to move, it's the end of the month etc.

its about 2 months of trolling here and there, reading, etc ...

just going to close my eyes and go for it. will be motivation to hustle extra hard after work and on weekends.

Anyone that wants to move inventory will do this. TL makes no difference, just gives the dealer an excuse to get lazy and not work the deal over (if they feel like it, otherwise the say "what's tread lightly?").

"INVOICE" IS THE BIGGEST CROCK THE INDUSTRY GETS YOU TO PLAY.

It's easy to tell if a dealer is out to move cars or bang everyone that walks in the door, just watch their inventory. A dealer here in the city still has wranglers on the lot from 6 months ago - needless to say, I drove an hour an a half outside the city where the hungry guys are moving 10X the inventory getting quantity discounts everywhere and they still made a profit at about 10% off "sticker". I paid 10-11% off STICKER (not 4% off invoice, which would be the same), just like many here, without "Tread Lighty" magic memberships.

Stop and think for a second, how can someone sell something for below cost and stay in business???

I'm willing to bet a Wrangler costs less to make than an entry level Kia and has a sticker 3X that of same KIA.

Headlights, $3 - check. Tail lights, $2.00 - check. Fenders, $35 - check. Doors, $100 - check. Hood assembly, $60 - check. Bumpers from recycled coffee cups and milk jugs, $3.50 ea - check. Grill, $16 - check. One of the lowest vehicles on the planet to insure cuz there cheap to fix making it's perceived worth, more, - check.

Why does anyone think these vehicles even exist? Ask Uncle Sam, Im sure he will tell you "cuz they only cost $1,256.00 to make and the lowest bidder will get the contract for 10 million of them". They aren't even worth bringing home after deployment they're so cheap!!!

I promise, there is NOTHING like a Jeep Wrangler in so many ways it's crazy!

Fiat is laughing all the way to the bank on Wrangler sales.

Just an idea, when you make your counter offer and he goes to run it by his manager - go home (If they have your phone #). When they call just tell them you are having a tough time deciding between the Jeep and the FJ cruiser. If you aren't comfortable with that then take a walk on their lot, to the furthest most remote part of their lot, so you can find a quiet place to really think. Trust me, they will find you.

i have been doing this all over phone and email. they haven't even seen me in person.

finance manager called me hour ago and i explained the situation, told her i know month is ending and their quarter ends april 2nd and she started laughing and i replied: yes i have done my homework and she goes it sounds like you have. let me get back to you.
