Depends what direction you are going with your rig. With your 33" tires if you ever plan to lock the rear you should step up to a D44 or Ford 8.8.. If not you might just look for a complete used D35 from a J/yard or Craig's List. I recently sold a perfect D35 complete drum to drum with arms for $300.00... If you have a shop doing the work on your existing D35 I can almost grantee you the bill will be higher than $300 bucks..

I wouldn't bother repairing a D35 when you don't know what's wrong with it. Junk it.
I surely wouldn't pay 200 bucks for someone to pull the cover off and look at some gears. At a shop rate of 100.00 they are turning a 30 minute job into a 2 hour one??!!

If you decide to repair it, parts and labor to install new R&P gears, bearings, shims, etc. should cost no more than $600 total. At the most. Have it repaired at a 4x4 shop, they do R&P jobs all the time... more often than standard auto repair shops do who will likely charge a lot more to do the same job.
