Steps/Tips to Order a New Wrangler
 
Hi all,
New here and in the process of researching ordering a new jeep from the dealer. Looking to get any tips/steps how to go about ordering my ideal jeep. I haven't been able to find one with all the options I want on any lot, thus the idea of ordering brand new. Thanks!

LOL I would have done step two except that Pat is on the other side of the Country and I figure the cost of getting it out here or driving it back would completely eat up any extra savings I got.

Pick what you want, find a decent dealer, order.

I was able to beat the TL discount by more than 2X. Pending your location, there are some very good dealers that will help you out.

Go through the Jeep website and check out every single option to decide what you want. Start with what type, as in Sport, Sport S, Sahara, Rubicon... Then go to the next level, the color. Then go to the next, start with Interior options, Exterior, drivetrain, etc... Look at ALL the details. Once you decide, you can print out a page with all your selections.

I'd contact the Fleet Manager of a nearby dealership by phone or email, and skip the sales team. I got lucky, someone I work with is friends with the owner of a Jeep dealership and I ordered mine through him, all by email!

Be ready to put some money down, how much depends on the dealership. Could be $200, could be $2,000.

Then... Hurry up and wait!

Figure out exactly what you want is step 1.

Step 2 is go to Edmonds or Truecar and find the invoice priceing with those options.

Step 3 is prepare for war and games.

Be prepared for them to really want to find you one instead of ordering it if you go to one of the sales guys. They make more money that way. Also this can end up taking up a whole day of your time. So if you do end up talking to one of the guys that has to talk to the manager in the other room then make sure your firm that you ONLY want to order.

They have basically 3 ways to screw you. Trade in value, New Car Cost and Financing. If you get them to give you a good deal on one, they will try to get you on another. I payed out right, but I have heard people that have gotten a loan quote from a bank first. Actually someone just bluffed a good rate and got it.

I would recommend that you make them give you the "ABSOLUTE Final" price before signing any paperwork. After Taxes and all Prep fees. My dealer put put an extra 400+ Doc Fee after supposedly getting me the Employee discount with its $75 fee. They told me that if I signed up for TL it would take a month to process which is BS. So anyways they got me in the Chrysler Affiliate Reward program amazingly when I was about to walk. I had already gotten through a bunch of paper work when they slid it in. I told them that I didn't think that was right, and I really should have made them take it all off. I ended up getting them to take it down to 218. Its BS I hate the stupid ass games. Let them live with there slime ball karma.

Your best bet is to ask to talk to the Internet Sales Managers and work a deal through them as much through email as possible. They most likely make there money more off volume then commission.

There's a lot of good advice listed here, but I'd like to highlight Tread Lightly and be prepared by doing exhaustive research. Don't waste any time and get that Tread Lightly membership right away. Just consider the 1% below invoice as your worst-case-scenario and work from there.

You are right on the money about getting it the way you want. And the wait time seems to have decreased after Chrysler threw 100 more bodies onto the Toledo plant assembly line last month.

For me, this process seemed easier than cars I bought in the past. One time in a Ford dealership, after three grueling hours of negotiation that appeared to reach a standstill, I changed my daughter's poopy diaper on the sales guy's desk and dropped it in his waste basket. Worked like a charm. Glad I didn't have to do that again as she is 14 now and probably wouldn't be so agreeable this time.

Step one: Figure out exactly what you want]
Step two: get on the internet and look for Jeep dealers in major cities that are in the distance that would allow you to still pick the Jeep up without eating into your saving to much.
Step three: Contact dealer that has the jeep you want and get their price.
Step four: if you get the price you want....Buy it :)

I'm thinking about ordering my first jeep and in looking at dealers nearby nobody has exactly what I want. Looks like and order and build is what I'll have to do. Are there any other fees usually associated with special ordering a jeep from a dealership? What should I be aware of when dealing with the dealer? Thanks

The 4th way is extended warranty.
The 5th way is 'extras' like undercoating, seat protection etc.
