am i the only one thats not loving black wheels????

Alright so the more I look into wheels and tires the less I'm feelng black wheels sure they look good on some jeeps but idk I'm not feeling them....I like the stock sahara wheels......that being said to run 33in bfg mk2s is the stock wheel enough bs?

In my case I still have my stock Sport rims but they will go black as soon as the weather is better here'bouts. It depends on several things IMHO, one of which is body colour.

I have seen many Sport's with stock rims and they look great but mine is Sahara Tan and black rims WILL look really nice against the tan body colour. Same thing with black trim. Light body colours really stand out with black trim. Some like painted fenders/roofs and these too look great with some colours.

 What ever floats your boat!:thumb:

LilYeller 03-30-2012 07:18 AM

Honestly I dont like a full black wheel. But I do like a nice black wheel with a polished rim. I guess I need something that will make the rim separate from the tire. just an opinion

cocky grin 03-30-2012 07:22 AM

It just seems likt to much black...the wheel, tire, fender to me it all seems to blend into nothingness

StealthJK 03-30-2012 07:30 AM

To each their own. I get my wheels installed tuesday. After that the only thing on the jeep not entirely black will be the chrome jeep grille logo

LilYeller 03-30-2012 07:32 AM

thats why I need some shine in there Like these ion wheels

I agree. I have nothing against black wheels. What I don't understand is the "I have a Wrangler so I need to get black wheels" mentality.

cpj.atl 03-30-2012 07:56 AM

Set ups with either color can look great ...

The black wheels look meaner and don't show brake dust as much. They look incredible with some lighter paint schemes like the Sahara tan.

That said, I am glad I ended up going with the standard alloy wheels.

Moundman 03-30-2012 07:59 AM

I think that everyone has their own tastes. I personally like black wheels or at least a darker wheel. I was never into the chrome bling look. There are definitely vehicles out there that look really good with them (black or chrome). I think it depends on the whole package though.

Yo answer your last question. No the stock will does not have enough backspace to run most 33's. The bs is 6.25". You can buy 1.5" hub centric wheel spacers if you really want the stock wheel to run 33's.

Saying that, it is the width that matters when looking at bs. A 275 is as wide as you can go on stock.

rics1997 03-30-2012 08:11 AM

I like black wheels but I really don't like all black myself. Thats why when went with the 15" combo on mine. I got the MB chaos and not the MB72. I like a bit of silver which will hopfully set it off especially since I have the stainless highlights on my AEV hood and silver military stickers. We will see in about 4 hours anyways

I really liked those wheels but they didn't have em so I ended up with the procomp 8179's. i like them but want to paint the center cap black.

I like black wheels but I like a little something shiny, not just all matte black. But thats just me.

I have 'em and plan to switch them out....they look good but in the end it was not quite the result I was looking for....though I do seem to get lots of positive comments when I'm out and about - in the end it's me who needs to like them, don't really care what others think. I think they look great on black rigs and very light/bright colors....on the others they seem to look kind of blah.

I don't like the all black look on Jeeps or anything else for that matter. Rarely is there an actual match of the color because there are nearly an infinite number of shades, glosses, and depths of black. There are way too many people putting them on everything anymore including Kia Accents, mini vans, and other POS rides. Black rims are the sign of lemming/sheep mentality. Don't get me wrong, the wheel manufacturers and aftermarket distributors love the mentality. I just prefer a more classic look for a vehicle that is rooted in its classic heritage.

baytownbert 03-30-2012 08:36 AM

I am hot and heavy on putting this wheel on my JK, but I can't get any company to verify if it will fit. All they will do is spout the standard non-OEM - you need 17X9 wheel uninformed blah blah blah. It has 3.75 inches of backspacing and is 5X5 bolt pattern.

This is a nice looking "classic" wheel. I had a set of these on my 1970 Challenger in 1978. It would be a great wheel to give a look of a custom classic prepared with taste.

I have a 2010 sport JK 2 door. I have 33's on with no lift on the stock wheels. Tire size is 285-75-16. You don't need those spacers. I don't have em on mine and everything works great.

too much black???? No Such Thing!:hide:

baytownbert 03-30-2012 09:23 AM

I'm not a fan of the all black wheels. To me, it makes every Jeep look alike. Not that these Jeeps don't look cool, it's just that with the all black look, they lose a lot of their personal identity. YMMV and I'm not hating.

VaderJK12 03-30-2012 09:34 AM

Before I bought my Jeep, I had gunmetal rims on my car. I was always into black and gunmetal rims. I never liked chrome, always thought it was too much "bling".

To each his own :thumb:

You can run something like the 255/80/17 KM2 (pizza cutters) without issue. If you step up to a something like a 285/70/17 on the stock wheels, then you will stand a good chance of some contact with the airdam and/or swaybar when turning lock to lock. A washer or two on the steering stops, wheel spacers, or new wheels would be your options.

on edit: Oops. Just realized you said "Sahara wheels". My bad. They do make a 285/70/18 in the KM2, but that is almost a 34" tire and is not going to fit on a stock suspension without some issues.

The specs say it should fit, but that certainly doesn't guarantee it. Some wheels have a strange rim shape and could cause contact. Could always order one, try it on, make sure you have enough room for wheel weights. Send it back if it doesn't fit.

Look like Ion 171s to me. The Ion 170s are badass!

That seems to be more the exception than the rule. In most cases, spacers, washers, or new wheels are needed to avoid contact. Rig looks good BTW. :thumb:

As for me, I always wanted to go with black wheels. They just look "right" on silver to me. I did elect to go with one of the least used options though; Level 8 Strike 5s. For some reason, these wheels just aren't seen very much. I am still yet to see another JK with them in person. That being said, I did almost go with the version with the silver lip (couple users here have those: basecamper, Daniel_M, etc), but just had to have the all black. :punk:

I was thinking of painting my grill and wheels white, and then getting some creamsicle stickers :-D
